Looks like a fun time was had by all. Would have loved to join in on the fun. I'll be up for the Red Flannel again, and maybe the Hancock 100.

That ride was a very nice way to spend the afternoon. We arrived late and rode a little harder than we should have to catch up. We got to meet some new friends and some very strong riders.
Anyone else get their butt kicked on Grille(sp?) Road?

Yeah Grill road was tough for me too. The guy on the surly big dummy was motoring up it though.

Thanks to everyone for coming out...I'm glad you liked the route. Sorry about Grill and some of the rollers...I tried to keep the route as flat as possible, but that's about as flat as it gets around here, guess Cheri and I are just used to them. :o
The guy on the Big Dummy was Brent from Century Cycles (he also built my BD), he's a pretty good MTB racer and rode that Big Dummy on RAGBRAI last year. ;)

As much as I complain about hills and Grill road, it's actually a good thing. If I am going to improve I need to do things like that, plus it wasn't outrageously horrible, it was challenging.

Great pics. Looks like you all had a great time. It was just to far away for me to get there on a holiday weekend and still have family time at home......Hopefully next time.

The guys from Century didn't want some spy from Spin lurking about and dropping them on the rollers. :p
We'll get you and Dan down one weekend - we'll do the extended version of this route.

Sounds like a great plan Chip.

This little ride was great for Cheri's confidence. She hasn't gotten a lot of miles in this year so she's been hesitant to do rides like the JJJ and others where she felt she'd hold us back. On this ride she not only stayed with the lead group with ease (she attacked on Grill ) she did so without me, since I kept turning around and going OTB to make sure everyone found their way. Now she's rarin for the Ice Cream Odyssey again!

This pretty much sums it up. The ride was a nice challenging ride. I definitely felt weak going into this ride after a month break of my usual riding routine.
Chip is right, for that area that's about as flat of a route as you're going to get. Just think, those screaming descents into Rogue's Hollow and Canal Fulton could have been climbs!
I hope to make some more rides around here, but we'll see how the family cooperates.
(p.s. I was late starting and couldn't find my bibs -- really regret doing yesterday's ride in regular shorts today!)

Sorry I missed the ride, but too much to do around the house.

I am a muppet racer. I plan on using Grill Road to train on. I will beat Grill Road like it beat me.
But seriously, Chipcom, thank you for putting this ride together. It was a nice, scenic route. I can't wait for the next one.
Shane and I plan on getting out for more rides. This was our first group ride and really our first road ride of any mileage at all.
Could someone post the route you guys took again? This is near my SO's sister's house, so would like to check it out sometime.

Here's the route:
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Memorial-Day-2009-ride
yea definetly rode alot harder than i would have liked to start that ride. But a few of those "screamers" let me gain some valuable time. I broke 32 on one. The first 10 were without water since I couldnt find the fill up in the park. That wasn't fun. Mostly bad planning on my part.
That exertion combined with the still rather tall gearing had my thighs burning on some of those later hills.

And also, wonderful route Chip. It was a really good one.
Who can name the photo?

Also wanted to thank Chip for planning the ride, and keeping me moving. I almost turned back after about 5 miles, and Chip kept me motivated. I kinda hated the ride during, but looking back it was a really good route for what I need. I plan on riding it a few more times this year.
As for naming everyone in the group pic, I think I'll leave that up to Chip

One more quick edit :), fourth from the left is Shane. We were on the drive home and he told me he has known mkeller for a long time. He went to school with mkeller's brother Steve. Now even the internet is a small world.
