This article has a slide show. I think this is important because of the visibility,
so many people see this. DC removed a piece of street to expand the pedestrian
area and put in bike lanes in my neighborhood but not as many people see it.
If bike lanes and street removal can happen in New York, it can happen anywhere.

We need to add Janette Sadik-Khan to our list of Carfree heroes.... well, I don't know that she has a car or not, but she seems to be taking New York down the right path. I hope these car-free zones work.

I work right in that area and it's about time they took those streets back. Times Square has waaaaay too much space dedicated to road and incredibly small sidewalks where people are walking on top of each other.

However, it's still ugly and cheap by simply placing beach chairs on the street.

Search "carfree" on Google News. Cities all over the world are doing similar things. For some reason (?congestion), Indonesia seems to be a hotbed for carfree zones and carfree days.
