Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Will these bikes hold a whale (er... horse) like me?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am a 310-315 pound, 57 year old ex rider with a mid 80s Cannondale Aluminum and a circa 93 Rockhopper Sport (welded steel) in my garage.
Doctor says I gotta lose some weight. Will these bikes be safe for me to ride?
Thanks.

i dont see why not. well that is as long as your not dirt jumping with it or anything. i have a old cannondale caad 1 rigid frame that i was riding since i was a kid. that held me fine when i was over 300 pounds all while mountain biking. my eyes have been opened to full suspension frames. i can actually what i am riding down on descents. anybody that has had their eyes blur from all the bumps knows exactly what i am talking about

You should take the bikes to a decent shop, get an analysis of what needs to be done to get them into riding shape, if they have not been ridden in a while expect to replace the chain, tires, tubes, brake pads. You will also need to get the wheels trued and tensioned, and general adjustments. Most bicycles except those designed only to be as light as possible are so over engineered that it should not be a problem.
