Pacific Northwest - Livestrong Challenge

Anyone else here going to do the Livestrong Challenge in June?

I was but surgery on my collar bone is preventing it, hoping to be fit enought o make the STP

Yep, signed up for the century and looking forward to it.

My wife Kasia and I are doing the century.

Be the first time since 2003 that I do not do it. One, since its not in P town any more. Two, I am doing the STP already. Looks like I donate this year for that great cause.

This will be my first centry. Looking forward to it.

Doing my first century as well....hopefully. I've been traveling so much that my training has taken a major hit lately. I'll be riding some distance for sure though! BTW, it looks like 3900 ft of climbing, not 7900.

As much as we'd like to be riding, my wife and I are going to be helping out at the second rest stop in Issaquah (for the 75 & 100 mile routes). I think it's going to be interesting to be on the other side of the table for once.

I rode around Lake Wahington and Mercer Island for the first time the other day and completed 78 Miles in about 6.5 Hours by myself. Any idea what kind of people will be riding the century? Am I bound to be the last one to finish?

At that speed, I think you will be hard-pressed to finish in the 8.5 hour cutoff.

You could do the 70 - it drops a couple of climbs and the trip around lake Sammamish.

I'm in for 45. I'm big and plodding, riding a MTB with road tires and carrying the beer wagon. Can finish 70 and probably 100, but 8.5 hours would have been a big stretch. No time limit at STP though!

I was on the fence but just signed up for the 70 miler. It will be interesting to see how the ride organization is. I did the 7 Hills of Kirkland ride and I thought the signage ands set-up was great. Hopefully Livestrong can follow up to that.

But if they did 78 miles in 6.5 hours, wouldn't that give them two more hours to complete 22 miles? (assuming the same speed, of course)

Seems roughly doable to me. Cutting it close, yes, but perhaps possible.

Let's get on the stick here. I was just looking at the numbers and the Seattle ride is way behind the Livestrong Rides at the other 3 locations. This is going to be a great ride. I understand that the roads will be totally closed for the first 18 miles of the ride. This will really avoid those traffic jams that frequently occur at the beginning of rides. Mercer Island is going to be pretty much closed down for the ride. It would be a shame if Seattle can't raise more money for cancer research than Portland did.
Of course, you will never be able to raise as much as Austin:)

Where do you fnd the total number of participants? I have looked for this and I can't find it anywhere.

Whatever genius scheduled the Livestrong Challenge scheduled it in the middle of a very busy period for Seattle organized rides.

The Flying Wheels Century -- the state's biggest century, for years -- is this weekend, 8 days before the Livestrong Challenge. The weekend of the 20th, there is the Tour de Blast (a spectacular ride up Mt. St. Helens) and Native Planet Classic (a ride over the North Cascades) and the Century Challenge at Lake Chelan, all on Saturday September 20. The Livestrong Challenge is on the 21st.

There are other open weekends in the ride schedule...this could have easily been done at a later date this summer.

Montreux Hill in Issaquah kicked my butt, and the hail near the south end of Lake Washington was exciting, but all in all it was a great ride. I hope they do it again next year.
