I like my Kogswell. A lot. Yea, it has braze ons for water bottles, yup it has eyelets for fenders AND a rack if you so choose. The internal routing for the brake cable is cool if you run a rear brake. For the right group of people it's a wonderful bike. Is it a stripped down urban warrior? No. But is it a really nice bike to spend a whole lot of time on? Yup, and the price is certialy right.
Fooj, you could have seen mine in Austin at the end of the MS 150, I'm also on the Kogswell owners gallery, I've got the red bar tape.

I finished at about noon but had to leave Austin quickly to deal with a refrigerator emergency at home. Wish I could have stayed longer. After I got in on the first day I watched bikes come in for the next 4 hours waiting to see another bike without a deraileur. I finally saw a SS mountain bike. Then when walking around the campsite that night I spotted a Soma Rush but couldn't find the rider, it didn't have any numbers on it so I'm not certain they were actually part of the ride, who knows. Not many fixed riders to be sure, I'll be there agian next year though in all probability.

dood..and that quick release lever up front? looks kinda sloppily hangin' down.. if you're gonna do QR, at LEAST fold them in light with the fork!

It's a different flavor bike crusty. There's plenty of fixies out there that are true track frames, do we need another? There are plenty that have a little of this and a little of that as far as brazeons go. Kogswell is simply whole hog with the stuff on the frame. Not for everybody to be sure, but when it's raining and I'm thirsty I'm pretty glad for the fender mounts and bottle braze ons. Someday when I actually work I'd like to commute on it. Fenders, a rack to carry my lunch, water bottles to quench my thirst and that lovely hidden rear brake cable to not get in the way. I understand why it offends your sense of style, but the bike has it's reasons.

They're not into making pseudo-track bikes for the edgy crowd. There's plenty of those things out there already. I can see how a nice utilitarian frame might not be your cup of tea, but to "lose all respect" for a pretty cool guy that's making nice lugged fixie frames at an affordable price is kind of absurd.

I don't really dig the combo, thats all...and I'm not that big a fan of lugged frames and threadless stems. I don't think it works...

That guy, Tom lives a few miles away from me. I've not met him directly, but I've exchanged emails with him, and we have a friend in common. Did you guys see the pic of that bike with the apehangers on it? Unless, it's not on the site anymore. Between him and I, I think we constitute 2 out of the 5 people who have ridden fixed gear within a 50 mile radius. Well, I guess Trekkie820 would be No. 3 since he's got my old bike now.

if it's raining when your thirsty, you dont NEED bottle braze-ons. just open wide.

seriously, i would never buy a bike that DIDNT have fender and rack mounts (not that I have either on my bike at the moment). Versatility is a GOOD thing.

Exactly - they're not the pseudo-track bikes that seem so popular these days. They're road bikes that just happen to be designed around a fixed gear.

I dunno if I'd buy one, but I think they're pretty cool.
