In March I crashed my half-bike and that resulted in a broken scaphoid bone. I was casted in a hard cast for 2 wks. before the broken bone was determined, thus relegating me to the trainer. I had surgery 2-1/2 wks. post-crash to install a titanium screw (upgrade!) into the bone. I was advised not to ride a bike, but if I rode, not to fall off. I had a soft, removable cast then, and I bought a neoprene/Velcro simple cast for my athletic endeavors (it washes and dries faster than the soft cast).

cgallgh, Mr. Problem-Solver extrodinaire, put the bullhorns back on the tandem, then adapted them for me:

He cannibalized the aerobars we bought for the tandem. He bought some conduit and fashioned it into a curve. He drilled holes into the bars and bolted the conduit, then put the armrests onto the end of the conduit.

Originally he did just the left, but my right tricep cramped from bearing all the weight, so he fixed the right side as well. I can drop into the armrests anytime and keep stress off my wrist, as well as assume an aero position.

Because of his work we can ride on weekends. I'm so grateful that we can ride at all; on weekdays I'm on the trainer, and that just doesn't satisfy my need to be outdoors. Thanks to his ingenuity we're happy to be weekend warriors.

When a problem confronts you, look at what is possible.

Sorry to hear about the injury, 'hope it heals quickly for you.

Regarding the fine engineering....I'd get the patent recorded quickly before the world steals it!
