ssssooo....i got a new chainring today. just put it on. one of the FSA track ones. it's a 46T. what can i say about a chainring? well, at first thought, not a whole lot as long as the teeth are all properly machined and it runs smoothly. i took it for a brief test ride and it fits the bill perfectly in that respect. but quality and amount of craftsmanship and pride in work is another story entirely.
i would definitely NOT pay full price for this chainring unless you were going after a total "stealth" look, and got the FSA cranks to go with it. it's rather boring to look at, it's just like, a flat ring with five holes drilled in it, no extra effort put into making it look nice, the anodizing might as well be just flat black paint. it's not shiney, which means in about a week, the black portions will be totally scratched up. i'm glad i got it on employee discount, but yeah, the stock chainring that came on my sugino75 cranks looks a ton nicer. however, the FSA gossamer road cranks i have are REALLY nice, and the rings on that are also very nice. so maybe it's just their track stuff that looks super plain.
i never realised how great it looks until i took it off and actually held it in my hands and examined it. i think the next 'ring i go after will probably be a sugino.
