Here are some reasons why I'm highly liking my new job site:
Transportation
a) One (or two, max) trains to work, as opposed to two trains and a bus (or taxi, if I was only slightly late).
b) I don't need to ride my bike to work; I can ride it if, and when, I want to. With my old gig, I had to ride if I didn't want to pay $20 to get to the campus. Not only did I overtrain and perform badly at work, I fell into a slump after I was done and rode something like a day a week until March.
c) The garage right across from my site has a secure and constantly monitored bike parking area. $5/day. (Though there is non-secured bike parking in another garage a few blocks away for free.) The old job had a bike rack monitored by a camera, but nobody ever came by, so I was hardly worried about that.
d) Corollary: $81/month, as opposed to $250+/month
e) I can still walk a ton of miles if I want (which I'll probably be able to do on Fridays, if I'm not bike commuting). I can also leave at any time I feel like leaving. At the old gig, I had to leave before 6pm if I wanted to catch the bus, or I was walking at least 3 miles. I didn't mind, but it kind of sucked having little choice.
Amenities
a) I never have to pay for coffee EVER again. We have free Flavia and brewed coffee, plus an espresso machine. This is more coffee than I'll ever know what to do with. (I only drink two cups a day, so this works very well for me.)
b) Tons and tons AND TONS of milk. Milk always went awry at my old job for some reason.
c) The coffee doesn't suck, and it's free. My old job had coffee that was okay at best, and crappy on average...and I paid $1.95 for it each and every time. (I only drank one cup a day then at most.)
d) They stock Arnold whole grain bread, whole grain English muffins, peanut butter, regular butter, jelly, cereal and a ga-zillion other things for free, plus free soda (if I ever needed to drink it). Paid for all and any food at my old gig, and had to waste a lot of work time in the process (everything was far; I'm sure that upset my manager a bit.)
e) Fresh fruit FOR THE WIN. (Iffy at the old job.)
f) Ping-pong room and recreation center. (Missing in other job, but we had a HUGE and absolutely beautiful campus that I couldn't work in b/c my boss wanted me indoors.)
Office Goodies
a) TV with news running all day. (I just got TV at home, and I've only used it for news and beautiful, BEAUTIFUL bluegrass music so far. Doesn't cost my Mom any extra, so yeah...)
b) Dual-screen, super-crisp Dell monitors, kid! (CRT monitor at the old gig)
c) A real man's phone system. (Older Lucent-based phone system at old job.)
d) IT is on-site. (Old job outsourced that show to the Philippines.)
Overall Stuff
a) This place is based off of another country, and its employees are very diverse. In fact, a lot of the folks here aren't from the US. Old job was pretty much as American as apple pie (and about as fat).
b) It feels good to be back in IT again.
c) It feels equally good to be back in Midtown again. (So far, especially with my girlfriend being close.)
d) I save money on food and transportation...and I get paid WAY more. HURR level = off the charts.

Now, I'm trying to keep my hopes realistic and concentrate on doing the best I can. I want to try and guarantee a spot here, and I only have three months to do it.
