Road Cycling - 80 mm stems

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Anyone know of higher end companies making these shorty stems. I caught a sweet deal on a Colnago 59 that has me reaching more than I find comfortable after 50+ miles. I know this is not the right way to do things as far as fitting goes but I had to have this bike and the guy really did not know what he had. CT1. Anyhow, I borrowed a shorty from my friends mt bike and it was worlds better and I think it will do. Does Deda make a Newton this short? The stem was a 130 that I pulled off and the guy I bought it from was 6.3" and I am a long 6.0. Any help or linx are greatly appreciated.

Do you really want to make that huge of an adjustment? 5cm is a massive change.
For the record, I'm about 95% sure that Deda only makes their Newton in sizes down to 9cm.
The Colnago geometry and sizing of a 59 shouldn't be too far off for you. I'd think if you really are a long 6' that 80mm would be way too short. Maybe you can borrow something in the 10-11cm rage and give it a shot. I just can't see moving the bars back 2 inches...
I'm personally a long 6'1" and would use a 13cm stem on a 59 Colnago.

Ritchey makes 8 cm in WCS and Pro product lines.
are stems measured c to c? (sorry to hijack)
after 50+ miles?! maybe you are just tired?! i dont think its your stem length my friend...Don't worry, I'm not questioning your fitness level as I can see its high if you regularly do 50+ training rides, Im just pointing out that after 50 miles of hunched over riding, its reasonable to have achey arms...Perhaps you need to raise your bars up a bit or move your seat forward...that might help....a 59c bike should fit someone of your height fairly well but without looking, I don't have a clue how long your arms are...good luck in anycase....

pd, yeah 30-50 three to four times a week. On the wife's leash the other days. Anyhow, I get a bit of elbow tendonitis riding the long stem and it is better once i bring it in. Its really my back where I feel it. Never had the screaming pain that I get occasionally on the larger bike. Seat is up and bar/seat height relationship is where I like it. I think I may adapt to it. I have been riding a compact frame(k2 Mod 4 med) I only have a couple hundred miles on the Colnago so I will tweak it to my liking, hoping not to tweak my achy-brakey back!

i use an 80mm ritchey pro stem.
you can also look for a handlebar that doesn't have as much reach.
you might wanna drop the 60 some odd bucks and get a bike fit...130mm stem is pretty long though and a shorter one may definitely be in order...im 6'2" myself, ride a 60cm frame and use a 120mm stem...im not a bike fit expert but after i saw one, my knees and elbows and substantially happy....

3TTT make some good value stems.
I use an 8cm, but Im 5'10, and consider it the shortest size for my sized frame. I would not advise mixing an 8cm stem with a large bike, it may throw the weight distribution off, and make the steering twitchy
Michael, got to thinking about that (weight distibution) and was concerned as well. I probably will be alright when I am riding straight ahead but when I am trying to rail a slippery turn at speed>.........Look out!
