Rides and Races - Toronto Fixed Part 2

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
wow, riding yesterday, I felt like I was going to throw up at a few points. This weather is making a great case for shirtless riding.
Although I must say that the people who seem to ride shirtless probably score lowest on my "I want to see you shirtless" meter.

You know, of course, there's something terribly snappy to be said here. It simply fails me now.

Well done sir. Well done.
Was it a childlike desire to feel the wind against your balls that made you do it? Or was it just the humidity? Curious minds want to know.

but ... but..... that's got brakes an' gears an' everything!!!
Martin Grove and Finch, 11pm ... upto a dozen shots for one cyclist? Something tells me the fact this guy was on a bike was incidental. Not that it makes it alright by any stretch, but I don't think he was some cyclist gunned down for being in the road. Not with that many shots... they wanted to make sure he was dead.

That was my thought when I heard it. Has anyone heard an update on that cyclist who got run over by the cab and lost his leg?

I dropped by the newly-renovated Bloor-Gladstone library and there isn't a single bike rack on the property. There aren't even any of those crappy bike-rings on the sidewalk. It looks to me like millions of dollars was spent on the renos and having absolutely nowhere to lock your bike up is a huge oversight.

There's some messenger that's *always* riding something that looks like this. I can't imagine it's very comfortable to use all day long.
There's another guy that rides a baby-blue marinoni cross bike, and the thing looks sooo sweet. I need to ask him more about it one day.

So heads up guys to anyone lockin up in the annex!!!! I ran up on some piece of $h!t trying to jack a bunch of stuff off my bike last night in front of the Timmies near bathurst on the south side of bloor.
Stupid bastard had my seat more than half out of the frame... the front wheel nuts loose... stem bolt loose...
I started screaming at his ass from almost half a block away so i didn't get to dish out any U-lock justice this time, but i'm hunting for his @$$ !!! I would have chased him on the bike but as soon as i grabbed my bars they pretty much spun sideways into my top tube leaving a nice dent/chip.
He's about 5'9" fat as **** with a wannabe courier bag and balding shaved head... He claimed to be a courier; when i started calling him a stupid phuk for screwing with a "work" bike... Bull $h!t... no courier is that fat! If you see this stay the hell outta the annex fat man... cuz one day you'll catch a U-lock tommahawk chop!!!!!!!!
It's not worth getting an assault charge over. Or perhaps manslaughter if you're unlucky.

That sucks that no one was stopping the guy, what time was this at? I saw a stripped IRO a few weeks back, right in front of that big used CD place near Bathurst. You'd think that a busy strip like Bloor would be safe...bummers.

No, though I'm interested. A fellow by the name of Kyle Brown submitted an essay to the Globe and Mail which was published yesterday, the first time I've seen a cyclist's perspective on this topic in the major media (perhaps I've missed a few others).

Black guy with long hair and seems to always be wearing shades? Dude has the junkiest looking bike that looks like it would be awful to ride but at the same time I've seen him pull some ridiculous crap through cross traffic so he's clearly spending a lot of time on it. I remember him being nice as hell too when I met him

and considering how many views it has had over the last few days, i'm sure they're happy with how much production they've put in it, even some pros like gincapie and armstrong have linked to it
I think it's funny.

hmm whom to email.. to the city.. if you can't enforce the laws for motorists don't build a useless two block bike lane as a "traffic calming" buffer at the bottom of one of the city's busiest streets (Yonge). It's a deathtrap, but super convenient for rush hour, no bust, dry cleaning pickup via YOUR CAR!!!!! Heading north towards the Esplanade it becomes a dashed-lined right hook just waiting to happen. Why can't they just leave well enough alone? ...and of course no signage saying watch out for cyclists on the right.
We need a police tow truck to just circle the block at rush hour here.

I love that race. The footage of that columbine descent is rad. Someday I hope to take a descent so long that I get tired.
Can anyone help me with a steel fork for a 57 cm Steel Viner? I'm giving my best man a road bike upgrade as a present. Two weekends ago we rode to Kingston to a music fest. His current bike (a 60cm old Gardin) was too much. I highly recommend that ride. hwy 2 connecting to the loyalist pkwy. Super easy and beautiful.

Well that will teach me for not reading. However, the descent was also tiring because it was so steep and had so many turns you had to ride the brakes way more than you'd like too.

I might have a threadless 1 inch carbon fork depending on steerer length. You can have it gratis if it fits.
