Road Cycling - my new ride - 04 Allez Comp Cr-Mo

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I got sick of riding the SS on road rides, so I decided (since I work at a shop) it's about time for my first "new" road bike. I have not got it yet - it comes in on Thur or Fri. I plan on doing a century on it Sunday. I rode the AL model and it rode nice, but I've heard some good things about the steel - any thoughts? BTW - mine is the double not the triple.

We had a 56 cm frame/fork (with cabon steerer) headset, couple spacers, a little packing and seat collar and the weight was ~ 5#

i have an 03 comp - with an aluminum frame and i think it's a great bike. i liked the feel of the cr-mo as well, but went with mine because it was a clearence deal and got it pretty cheap.
i'm not a fan of those wheels though. but in any case, enjoy your new ride.

nothing huge. i have the same set and they seem to go out of true too often, and the hub seems to work itself loose which makes a bit of a racket after about a dozen rides. (but that could just be a problem with my set - i did hit a pot hole and have taken a few spills since i've had them).
hope i didn't scare you! to be honest though, i'm looking to upgrade mine within the next few months.

Thats a sweet ride. I bought the Elite Triple Cromo. I chucked the wheels and replaced them with Mavic Open Pro CD's along with a tighter cogset 12-23.
I took it out for it's first ride (30 min after I built it) at 55 miles. It rode great - the wheels are a bit heavy but very stiff. The ride is ten times smoother than my Van Dessel, but takes sprinting just as well - no flex. The bigest problem I had was the overall weight at just over 20 lbs - I was hopeing a bit lighter - however it did ride very well. I'll be doing a 80 miler tomorrow up Mt Spokane and then a double century at the begining of July (with a couple other training rides in between of course).
If it makes you feel any better my Tange Prestige Paramount is about 24lbs w/ a mid weight wheelset and 9spd stuff.
I was down to the very same bike and the Lemond Buenos Aires. I picked the Buenos Aires because it felt better, but I kind of wish I got the Comp Cr-Mo because I like the owner there better. Plus I would have saved a few hundred bucks. The Lemond killed me, I'm flat out broke now... :D

That's one of the bikes I'm looking at! it's one of the few steel bikes for that price.
and steel lasts longer...and like you've found, has the smoothest ride.
