Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - forum split proposal

I was wondering why the other bike forums have various road bike disciplines like touring, racing, tech and such. Does anybody else think it may be about time to spin off the single speed from the fixed gear to have it's own section in the forum area. They spun off track to it's own area and lets face it, Single speed is it's own discipline which is different from fixed gear. I have and love some single speed bikes but I think there is a bit of confusion about the difference between the two so that each would benefit from the parting. Maybe this has been suggested before and I am just unaware of it. If so what was the consensus? What say you all?

I don't see the need too - it's two similar "cultures" and it really comes down to technique and preference. Also, the very nature of the fact that hubs are flip-flop perhaps speaks to the nature of this forum, it can be flipped if need be.

Personally, I like it all mixed up - I ride SS but appreciate fixed as much as everyone. It also helps to inch me closer to make the transition one fine day.....

i liked it mixed up as well. i think those that come here to ask questions and learn are just going to learn that much more about the subtle differences and many similarities between the two setups. i'm sure most to all of us that frequent this forum would be in both forums after the split, turning it back into one forum in a sense.

While there is a lot of unnecessary banter in here, I look at this place like a pub of onegearedness. Trash is talked, feelings hurts, noses snubbed, but in the end, splitting it up would be a mistake as it appears that there are some crossover riders here (like myself) who delve into both freewheeled mayhem as well as fixed gear disonance and occasionally can offer some insight.

Keep 'em together...if you don't like what is being said, put those individuals on your ignore list.

One Cog, One Gear, One Forum.

Doesn't matter if you prefer to coast or not...it's still one gear. Plus we are here to edumacate each other on the joy and pain of riding a bicycle with 2 wheels and one gear. As Thomas "Roadkill" Anderson once said:

(Got that from some mini book about Harley riders but felt it approriate in this thread)

I vote we stay the same. Or you'll kill the forum for what its. That said, Don D will jump on it so he fits in. Seems to be he's either killed other forums as well, from what some people have told me on the side. I understand the reason, but it make sense to stick together. We all get snobbed enough.

riding on a track and racing on a track are two completely different beasts.

i was never questioning whether or not you ride a "fixie" or a track bike. i'm simply stating that if you dont race on the track, you shouldn't call yourself a trackie. whether or not you ride a track bike or a fixie is irrelevant.

come up to kenosha on a tuesday night of your choosing, and sign up to race. it's not expensive, 20 bucks. it's not far. if you dont have a car i'm sure you can find a ride now that northbrook is closed for the year. there should be more than a few folks heading up this way to race.

or is sanctioned racing too "mainstream" for you? if it'll help make up your mind, you don't have to wear any flashy lycra. last year a few of the 13/14 year olds raced in regular teeshirts and shorts.
