I'm a total newbie to biking and this forum. I've been lurking for a bit. Thinking about getting back into biking for exercise, fun and possibly commuting. I live 1.75 miles from work. I want to get a decent used bike before I go out and spend a lot. This guy on craigslist seems to sell a lot of them and seems to know his stuff. Can you give me an idea if this bike is decent? And what a fair price would be in OKC, OK. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/bik/1191322433.html
I am 6' 3" but I will make sure it fits me first. And I don't want to insult him and offer $100 if the components and such are nice. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
Here's a nice example of one of Schwinn's finest road bikes, rated third from their top of the line Paramount.
Chrome molybdenum 4130 double butted top and bottom tubes. Single-butted seat mast. 1020 carbon steel forks and stays.
All joints are lugged and brazed. Tubular front fork, with chrome plated crown and lower 6" of front fork ends chromed.
Paint is a silver mist and in reasonably good shape with a minmal amount of scratches - no rust.
Could stand to be compounded out and polished.
Araya 27" x 1-1/4" aluminum alloy rims. Shimano large flange hubs with quick releases on both wheels.
New gumwall tires (90 lbs. inflation).
Aluminum alloy handlebars- forged alloy stem with recessed stembolt. Aluminum alloy seat post.
Three-piece aluminum alloy cotterless crankset (39-52 teeth sprockets). 6-3/4" (170mm) crank arms. Gear range of 38 low to 100 high.
10 speed with Shimano 600 alloy rear derailleur and model 60 front derailleur. Shifters on down tube - 14-17-20-24-28 rear freewheel cluster.
Compe G side pull caliper brakes. Quick release tabs on caliper assemblies.
VERY LIGHT : Approximately 26-1/2 pounds (12.2 kilograms)
VERY TALL : 25"(63.5cm) Seat tube - 34" Standover height - Must be 6'3" and over to ride this one.
