Touring - Soma touring frame? Saga?

I was just loafing around on the Somafab website and was looking at the geometry specs for the DC and noticed a listing for a Soma touring frame called the "Saga". Anyone know anything about these frames? I could find no other info on them. Not even on the buy online page. Sounds interesting though.

Yea, I saw the same geometry specs and fired off an email asking for pics so we'll see. Supposedly only offered as a frameset but don't know about costs. Like Surly LHT, 54 and smaller sizes designed with 26" wheels.

I'm very happy with my Soma Double Cross DC and would like a long chainstay touring frame in the 4-5 lbs range.

I would rather see the rear spacing at 132.5 mm. I know 90% of owners will use a 135 mm MTB/touring wheelsets. However the a 132.5 mm spacing gives the owner the choice of road or MTB/touring wheels.

It's great to see Soma coming out with a touring frame, offering some more alternatives to the LHT. The geometry specs look right on. I just wish Salsa would jump on the bandwagon. They seem to have more style than Surley or Soma.

Salsa & Surly are both owned by the same company. Each product line is seeking a diverse niche. Salsa has the Fargo as its fully loaded tourer.

I hear ya on that one. I had my LBS build a custom Cross-Check for me, I'd have loved some more options besides black and poo-poo. I went with black, btw.

So here's the demo, does anyone know when they will be available, approx. price? I'm on the fence between trying the saga out or just getting a thorn.

It's reported that the 44cm frame size weighs 4.9 lbs. That 0.7 heavier than a Soma Double Cross in a 54cm size. The LHT is 5.15 lbs in a 58cm size.

Not exactly how I would set it up, that's beside the point. I like it. Looks like it has a lot of potential.
Is it just me or does the bike look extra big? (For a 54cm/26" wheel) Maybe the guy holding the bike is just on the small side. I'm just used to 54cm frames looking like they're made for Hobbits.

It's great to see some other bike companies offering alternatives to the LHT. Not that there's anything wrong with the LHT, but competition is good. I'm not wild about the Saga's color but that's personal taste. More importantly, the geometry specs look right on, at least from my point of view -- long head tube and chain stays, plenty of mounts for fenders and racks, relatively slack angles. The web site doesn't show a price, but I assume it will be similar to the Smoothie or ES.
