Maybe it'll be in a movie called "Fast and the Fredious"

"Team Orange"?

They were thinking "let's sell a full CF bike, with top end components at a ridiculously low price for what you'll find in stores. And let's make it orange."

I'll buy it and part it out.

$2700 for the bike.

CC has the whole 7900 line for $2600. I sell it for $2500 eBay or CL on and the frame for $500 and I just made $300.

Repeat.

Yeah, I don't really see an awful lot wrong with that bike. Steer tube's a bit long, and level TT looks kind of dated for a carbon bike?

Well, maybe it's just me, but the color combined with the design of that frame just looks bad. But eh, I could probably get over it if someone gave me one.

I'm not exactly in love with the color either, but on the other hand I don't really find it repulsive. Still a hell of a deal for a carbon bike equipped like that.

I think that's a pretty good price for DA7900 and Mavic Ksyrium Elites...looks nice too.

Not saying that those are great wheels (which they are), but most of the bikes that come with them are priced much higher without the newest of the new.

Don't forget the wheels. You could undersell those and still make good profit.

It's actually a pretty plain frame, only with a bright color. I think a logo-plastered LOOK or Cervelo is much more "Fast and the Furious."

Serious?? All you Picassos out there with those garish bikes you love soooooo much because......they're a name brand!! Yet you ridicule a value like that because it's orange?? Frankly, the orange makes me puke but, all Dura Ace with Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels a Ritchey PRO Carbonfiber seat post and Vittoria Rubino PRO tires for $2800 and you're making fun of it??....Uuuuuu, how pretentious we are.

Ever been to a Taiwanese CFRP factory?? Good, because you'll get sick when you realize your beloved Trek/Spec/C'dale, etc is made in the same place, by the same technicians as this frame you ridicule.....eeeeeeeeesh. Do you really think they build a second class factory just for these bikes? Do you really think that?? Think again.

But... but... those bikes are so much more expensive, it HAS to be the name brand fairy dust they have sprinkled on them. Drops 5 pounds and reduces rolling resistance by 30%.

Duhhhh.

The point of this thread is, out of all the colors they could have chosen, they chose bright orange. It would look much better in a different color....like pink.

Yes, but if they did that, then you wouldn't have pointed it out by starting a new thread here on BF, which in turn illicited a variety of responses, thereby increasing the interest in BD, resulting in more sales. And people say their marketing is suspect. It's actual quite brilliant.

Taking this bike and this bike only as an example... (as a working graphic designer) you're more likely to end up with the BD design than the Spec design posted above from a professional designer. Simpler, matches the form of the bike better, and a unique color palette.

The Specialized bike looks like the graphics were laid out by a freshman design student that just figured out that Photoshop has filters (snobby designer joke).

Admit it: You would totally rock this. Just $2799 (List 5995)!

But seriously, you really think that a decent graphic designer with any sense of taste couldn't do better than a solid color and this logo?

Oh I'm far from saying it's perfect, just saying compared to the Spec bike, it's WAY a more tasteful composition. And actually... yeah, solid colors are kind of a hallmark of top notch design. Pick up one of the 'Best of Graphic Design 200x' books next time you're in a Barnes and Noble. You'll see a lot of simple shapes and solid colors. Not saying every design should be sparse and have a limited palette, but it's good to go in with a less is more mentality if you want something to come out looking decent on the other side.

Keep in mind, you're also talking to the guy that takes off every decal he can get a fingernail under on every vehicle I own. You wouldn't know my Monster was a Ducati unless you looked on the case, where it's cast into the cover. Everything else has been stripped off.

I'm a minimalist of the maximum variety.

I'm a minimalist of the maximum variety.

Sure, I understand the preference for subdued graphics; of my two bikes, one is completely white and the other is unpainted ti with nothing but a HT badge and logo decals. I do like a little accenting though to sort of break the monotony, so I'll have to disagree with you there.

Regardless, BD doesn't seem to use solid colors because they're following a "less is more" approach (as shown by their mix of 3D biker and 80's NASA logos over silver tribal art). At the very least they should rethink the logos - the enormous size and excessive serifs is a straight-up eyesore. To each his own though, I suppose.
