Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - MTB 135mm hubs on a road bike?

what kind of problems (other then needing to cold set my frame) will I run into if I use a mtb 135mm hub?

current bike is 126mm... so logic tells me the chain line would move out about 5mm... in reality will this give me any real issues? should I just stick with some 130mm hubs?

It needs to be a steel frame to be spread, Aluminum isn't smart to do this with. One immediate concern. ;)

I've built many "road" wheels with 135mm wide "MTB" hubs. No issues whatsoever. In fact, it's quite easy to replace the axle in a 130mm width road hub with a longer axle and add a 5mm spacer. I have a rear wheel with a Shimano 105 hub and Mavic A719 700C rim, and it's been perfect since the day I built it.

As others said, cold-setting (aka "bending") the frame for the wider hub is allowable if it's steel, chancy if it's aluminum, and impossible if it's carbon-fiber.

lol a point you'd think would be obvious... :) but yes... we're dealing with an early 90's 126mm lugged steel frame

I think my biggest concern is the chain line... which could be fixed with a wider BB... but that increases the Q...

any other problems that i'd get to deal with?... other then limiting myself to a steel frame or MTB for future options :)

Is it a geared bike or single speed? If it is geared it shouldn't matter. I switch between a 130 and 135mm hub on my Cross Check without adjusting the derailers at all.
