Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. For me it's the Internet. Mobile phones, iPods, iPhones, Playstations, plasma/LCD TVs I couldn't give a hoot about, but without internet/email I'm stuffed. I found this out recently when I tried to upgrade the RAM in my computer but the replacement I got was the wrong one and wouldn't fit and then I couldn't get the old one to work. It was the most stressfull two days of my life that I can recall!
i feel that way when I am away from mod cons, but I am confident I'd get used to it in a short while.....human beings made do without this stuff before, after all.

If there is any techno gizmo I can't live without, it's certainly not something I am conscious about.
I use a lot of tech at home, but it's all hobby stuff and activites I have created, so none of it is necessary and I probably wouldn't even miss it.
I guess I couldn't live without my piano. That was pretty technologically advanced in 1720...
Techno gizmo????
Well my first choice would be this:

Flush toilet
I think I'd prefer to go without a flush toilet than to go without toilet paper.
Computer, use one daily at work...which happens to be something I am rather passionate about.

Man, I'd get rid of mine if it played techno...
The only thing other than my computer that could be considered "tech" is my e-book. I could live without my book more than my computer, but then I'd have to go back to the library all the time. My wife told me I devour books.
No cell phone, no microwave, no tv, no stereo (use the computer), no consoles.
Man, I'd get rid of mine if it played techno...
If it starts doing that pm me. I'll pay for the shipping...One ,mans garbage is other mans trash...Keep the septic tank please.
insulin filled syringeI'd trade a lifetime of insulin-filled syringes for a functional pancreas, but hey, whatever floats your boat. :P
Other than that, give me internal combustion and music, and I'm set.

Honestly, iPods have more features than I do. Simplify!

Shoes, clothing, metal pans and/or cups, and matches/lighters. I can and at times have improvised and scavenged other essentials when in the woods and desert, but I definitely don't want to be without these few things if I can help it.

1) I could do without all the electronic control systems that are installed in cars these days (the stuff under the hood). I realize they are put in there to improve performance, mileage, and safety, but I love driving a car with a carburated V8 engine, manual steering, manual brakes, and a convertable top. Seems to give me a better "feel" for the road. All that entertainement crap they put in cars? Pure BS, a product of the devil.
2) Electronic calculators. I remember (way back in college) the joy when I could afford one and didn't have to use a slide rule anymore. What a godsend when you're working with scientific data! Still have a few slide rules lying around, occasionally take them out and play with them.
A well honed straight blade and a good scuttle. How would I have been able to enjoy a great shave without these two marvels?
