Hi,

I've done a quick search here and not seen exactly what I needed to know, and am in a crunch as I'm looking at a used Ti bike w/disc brakes.

Assuming I have access to an experienced Ti frame builder, is it a big deal to add cantilever brake bosses to a Ti frame (should I decide to switch to rim brakes)? And to add a few braze-ons (like rack mounts on the seat stays)?

From what I read here, it seems like this is not a big deal, but just wanted to check.

(Tire clearance is not an issue).

some prices (http://ticycles.com/store/repair.html#frame)
and a previous thread named:
Cost of braze-ons?

(how do you link threads?)

It will be different from steel though with Ti. I didn't scan those threads, but you can't braze Ti as far as I know, so you need someone capable of TIG welding the stuff, which is a specialty. I TIG weld steel, copper, but wouldn't touch Ti or Al without a lot of further practice, and in the case of Al a whole new machine. Often Ti is naked, which makes refinishing cost less a part of the picture. And obviously you need Ti parts, I don't think you can weld steel to Ti. Is the fork Ti also?

I have access to the original builder of the bike. Was just trying to get a feel for whether this would be a "big deal" or not; the price list posted above was helpful.

The fork is steel.
