If your wife ever says this to you.....
Run, leave town, go on a three week vacation.
A woman doing a remodeling job is worse than a woman with PMS!

Watch it! :notamused: Some of us are pretty handy.
I thought "I'm going to go remodel the bathroom" was a warning of a different sort.

My wife standard for remodeling is saying we only need a bucket of paint. Then we wind up Ebaying our expendable body parts to finish the job.
"I'm going to Lowes to buy a bucket of paint."
6 hours later
"Let's see the bill, Mrs Buck-o-Paint."

Maybe you should drop what you are doing and offer to help.
You could at least make her a sandwich or hold the flashlight.

Not true! I remodeled BF's bathroom over a weekend and he was/is eternally grateful for the change. :P It went from hole-in-the-wall, ripped heinous border, bright red, to a gorgeous slate gray oasis. I love that bathroom.
Oh we're re-doing our kitchen, starting next week.
$60k.
:notamused:
(but it's going to be really cool)

Kitchens are not cheap. Are you implying that you have no say in the matter?

My house cost less than that and no it's not a trailer or crack house :p

You're in Wisconsin. You could buy a 100,000 square foot house for a buck a square foot.

Oh man, remodeling is dangerous. You're right, don't walk, run.
My wife once said hey can you build some kind of box to cover up the drier vent pipe that runs behind the sink and out the wall in the second bath? No problem I says, how hard can it be? All I had to do to make it meet her desires was:
Move the wall of the bathroom out so it encompasses the laundry and bath into one room
New tile floor
Paint the walls
Paint the ceiling
Tile the shower stall
New toilet
New sink and cabinet
Build one of those boxes so the laundry is up higher for easy loading
Hang a new door on the new wall
Build a coat closet in the new wall
All new fixtures
New heater register
New moldings throughout
Yep, run like hell brother, run like hell.

I'm painting the exterior of my ugly house this summer and it won't be cheap. Good thing I have a 15 year old son to help with the massive caulking job.

Are you kidding me? Man you guys are digging holes. Not all women are helpless with tools/construction/remodeling/repairing house and car and we don't all like pink. :notamused: If I'm using tools, I want the real thing not some foo-foo pink, made for women crap.

Apparently there are enough women out there preferring pink that complete toolsets are made for them to purchase....crappy toolsets.
If they're buying any tool based on color rather than functionality/suitability/durability...then they deserve crappy tools.

The women that are concerned about breaking their nails and getting their hands dirty prefer pink crappy tools. I know plenty of guys that can't find the functional end of a ratchet. It's a little sexist to group all women into the incapable, non-mechanical, pink-tool loving category. It has nothing to do with gender.

You're right on all points. My garage is a typical person's mess, with pegboards full of tools, mismatched cabinets full of years of junk from repairs past, funny little containers full of rusting hardware, etc. Some of my friends see it and are amazed at all the toolish stuff, and I'm thinking you mean you don't have a garage brimming with this stuff? A lot of guys wouldn't know what to do with that cute little pink hammer.

True, I hadn't considered that some men might want pink tools...not that there's anything wrong with that. They're still idiots for buying crap.

That one does.
Sort of on, sort of off topic but I once dated a "tool" that couldn't figure out how to change a flat tire on his car. He couldn't figure out how to use the jack, let alone change the tire. I had to show him. And don't even get me started on him checking his own oil, what's that???

Why is it OK for a girl not to know that, but if a guy doesn't he's a "tool"? Sexism works both ways.

I'm guessing that perhaps the "tool" part came about from other aspects of who he was and not his inability to use a tool.

More like $50/sq ft in 1994. But this part of Wis is still in a bit of a real estate bubble. I don't know why.
Bicycle commuting can be a challenge

She made it quite clear that his tooliness was based upon his lack of ability to change a tire...a skill every male must apparently have to get a man card. Sexist expectation? Perhaps. I don't make the rules...I just break them.

He wasn't good at anything that I could see, but he thought he was good at everything.

Has nothing to do with sexism. Had to do with him implying and saying he was handy, yada, yada, yada, then when faced with having to change a tire couldn't figure it out. Lots of talk, no substance. Punted him quickly.
Edit* One further comment. I believe that if one "talks the talk" then they had better be able to "walk the walk" and that goes for both men and women. :)

Ah, something we can agree on. :thumb:
I can also see his attitude leading to his lack of skills. You can't teach someone that already knows everything.

Depends on the intended use of the ratchet in question...
