Triathlon - What do you do to make sure there are no "accidents"

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yeah I mean what I wrote... Is there anything particular you do, especially before a long race to make sure that you don't have to make a mid race pit stop (of the deuce variety)?

I ask because I have a race sunday morning that is starting 1 hour before most events usually start. Usually around 30 minutes before my wave I am ready to take care of business, however right now that squarely puts me 1/2 hour in at a minimum. Any tips?

The night before... don't just eat pasta. Have a small salad, too.

fiber.

that depends on how long the distance is, if it is olympic or less, don't worry about it. if it is half or above, well, +1 for fiber.

I would think that if your race starts an hour earlier, you are getting up an hour earlier, and your body clock will adjust as well.

I generally get nervous enough before a race that everything is taken care of before I have to start.

I ate some salad last night just in case, and I was able to take care of things about 1 hour before race time...

Interestingly, my first half, I had serious gastro-intestinal issues the morning there of. I visited the porta-johns at least five times, including once after I had my wet suit on. It was a PITA stripping down after I had already dressed.

However, I just got from my second half (Auburn Half Iron, aka 'The World's Toughest Half", and despite eating a nice, unhealthy bacon cheeseburger the night before, I had no problems this morning. I think the first time I was nervous because it was my first half, but this time, I wasn't nervous.....I knew it was going to suck!

+1 Pre race nerves usually has this sorted so there are no concerns of this nature during the race :o

Pre-race nerves FTW. Well lose actually because I swear there must be a law about public restrooms (wether portajohn, kroger, or gas station bathroom) must have toilet paper that is easier to see through than a car windshield. I think I'm going to start bring baby wipes of some kind to the race and sell them at $5 a peice.

My normal time to go is around 4pm and I never feel close to going in the morning. But race day time it's go time.

Now when I run with my dog in the 5ks his favorite time to go is about 30seconds to 1 minute after the race starts.

Doesn't matter how empty my gut is or how good I feel...30mins to race time and the cramps start and it's time for a trip to the port-a-jon. Course my body is awesome that way, every morning of every long run I've ever done, my legs are all crampy when I wake up and my knees are sore like my body is trying to convince me stay in bed.
