YES i have used the search button more than anyone should have to, but i just could not find anything on my size.
I am 5' 9" with a 31" inseam and can not decide between the 50cm or the 53cm Mercier Kilo TT. I am afraid the 50 would be too small or the 53 would be too big. What do you guys think?
is it better to have this bike smaller or larger if ure in between sizes?
thank u so much
i'd go w/ the 53 given your height...
smaller frames are stiffer than their larger counterparts though.

definitely 53.
I am 5'5" and I would probably fit the 50.

if you dont own a kilo, i suggest you keep your mouth shut.
the 53 will be too big for you. i could explain in depth but i really dont feel like it. just take my word for it. they run big. meaning a 50 is really a 53. a 53 is a 56 and so on. my friend is your height and made the mistake of buying the 53 and thats how i got it. he took a $50 hit selling it to me and went and bought himself another one. im 6', for the record and its only a tad bit too small on me, but i prefer a small bike over a too big bike.

My kilo was 53 and I have a 31.5inseam and am just short of 5'11 I had about a 1in room from my balls to the TT when I was standing over it. I sold it my friend who is about a half an in smaller then me and he rides it fine.

oneangrytoast is right its better to get a smaller bike than a bigger one xD

Get the 50. They are measured from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the top tube, not the top of the seat tube. That measurement would be 53cm on the "50cm" frame.

im about your size 5'9 30.5" inseam and my 50 kilo fits me very well. I personally would be far to stretched out on a 53 for my tastes.

Inseam doesn't mean crap in bike sizing, not does seat tube sizing. You should run your measurements through a fit calculator, see what size top tube is recomended, and buy the bike that has the right size TT. It's better to have a LARGER frame than a smaller one, you won't have as ****ed up handling and egronomics as a too small frame.

cute.
i've ridden a 50cm kilo. it fit me. i'm four inches shorter than the OP and while overall height is far from the be all and end all i've seen a lot of people uncomfortable on frames that are too small for them. from road bikes to track bikes to daily bikes.

Just to give someone another measurement.

I'm close to your measurements, and I got the 50cm. My brother has the 53cm and It was way too big for me.

I'm 5'9" and the 53 fits me perfectly. I couldn't have asked for a better fit.
so we know his inseam... what about the rest of his body? suppose he had a 31" inseam, short torso, long arms, and good flexibility. or maybe he has short arms and poor flexibility. height is just part of the picture. what about his stem and crank sizes? will his height be the sole factor in determining them as well? considering all the stupid sh*t you guys take so seriously it's a wonder that people are still oblivious as to how they should fit their bike.
cute.

Well I'm 5'6" and the 47cm is too big for me. It's all dependent on your individual body sizing. My Kilo fits me to a degree but the next bike I get I think I'm definitely need to go smaller or even custom. As has been stated though the Kilo runs large and I would suggest to size down to compensate.
I'm 5'11 and got a 57cm, yeah its a little big for me when dismounting but i feel comfortable riding it so it's fine. I probably would of been better off with the 55 but oh well.

yea go small is what i would do if unsure~ because a short seatpost looks un-sexy =/
my stats: 5'10, 30 inseam, 53cm, SHORT bmx stem, 13cm (inches? crap...) of seatpost is in the tube~

How are the sizes for the Kilo TT compared to for example a Cannondale CAAD? Aprox the same or what? I've heard that different brands differ on the sizes...

Sigh. The OP doesn't even tell you what his reach is thus we don't know what the proper top tube length is either. As long as you have say 1" of clearance on the standover all that really matters is the TT length.
The op doesn't give enough information either way for us to be helping him anyways. At best all of you are randomly guessing, he might as well have just flipped a coin. Post #9 was on the right track. But the rest of you, christ.

My friend is about your size, and he can't fit my bike, too small for him. It's a 50, which fits me perfectly (5'7), so 53 is good for you.

Seriously bad advice throughout this thread about fit, it will apply differently to different people but overall this bit of "wisdom" sticks out worse than anything else. It is easier to make a smaller bike longer than a bigger bike shorter. Fit is more important than your perceived "Handling" and "ergonomics" because a properly fitted bike gets ridden, I don't ever hear people say they don't ride their bike because of poor handling! :crash:

In order to make a bike too small fit, you have to put your saddle super high, which pushes your saddle back from where it is designed to be. That affects your COG and fore/aft saddle position. Then, you have to deal with the large saddle to bar issue, and put on a long ass stem to deal with the reach. All those make your bike handle like crap..
A frame that is just a little too big you just run the seat lower, and use a shorter stem, which doesn't affect handling as bad. You also will have less bar to seat drop.
Seriously, you don't know what you're talking about.

your point is well taken. but i'd still base frame size on my TT needs. easier to raise/lower seatpost than to play around with different stems.

i really appreciate all of the feedback. Every ones opinions still seem to split between the two sizes, and for good reason. I neglected to give you guys enough information bout myself. Other than my 31 inseam and 5' 9" height, i also have a 70in reach (177.8cm). I measured the reach from finger tip to finger tip (i hope thats correct. Other than that, what other information bout my body would you guys need to help me even further?? and flexability? i dont have great flexability..but it aint bad..aha
at this point, leanin toward the 53, but definitely dont want my seat stomped
being in between sizes is a *****...especially with a bike that sizes different than every other track bike in the world.

I would try a Fit Calculator Like This (http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=FIT_CALCULATOR_INTRO)
Do all the measuring carefully and it should help you make a final decision. That is what I did before my purchase.

I guess I don't understand why everyone is so confused by the measurements or sizes.
The geometry sheet says they are labled as c-c for the seat tube. Are they measured wrong, or what is the deal?
I have a bike right now that is 52cm c-c for the seat tube, and I want to get one that is 54-55 cm c-c for some longer more comphortable rides with less saddle to bar drop. I was going to get the 55cm size kilo from bikeisland.....But now I question what is going on with the measurements.

less saddle to bar drop = higher stem, not bigger bike. Bigger bike is going to stretch you out further which may not be what you are wanting.
A 55 kilo is 55 c-c so if your sure your current bike is 52 c-c (and not c-t) then there is nothing going on with them.

Yeah, I know it will have a longer top tube. I'm going to be using different bars than my pursuit bars that I have on my "track" bike, though. So the reach will be compensated for.
Thanks for the info on confirming that the sizing is actually accurate, though.

These are all of my measurements from a fit calculator. Do you all think this is leanin toward the 53cm???
The Eddy Fit
Seat tube range c-c -- 52.2 - 52.7
Seat tube range c-t -- 53.8 - 54.3
Top tube length -- 54.8 - 55.2
Stem Length -- 10.1 - 10.7
BB-Saddle Position -- 71.1 - 73.1
Saddle-Handlebar -- 53.2 - 53.8
Saddle Setback -- 4.2 - 4.6

it would look like you are in between, but a little closer to the 53 than the 50
Do they not have bike shops where you live?

Hey jumping on this same question..
I am 5ft 6" with 28" inseam and long torso. Do you think the 50cm would be too big? 47cm seems like such a small bike. I ride a 49cm San jose perfectly.
Thanks!

right now im riding a 58cm windsor which is a little bit big for me and its not exactly uncomfortable at all. My seat is not slammed and i only had to buy a 90mm stem to bring the reach in alittle big. im 5' 11". I would say go with the bigger size bc in the long run your probably be alittle more comfortable being alittle stretched out then crouched up and your knees smacking you in the chest. It seems as if it would be harder to control a to small bike than a bike that is a bit to big but thats just my logic. If you can touch the ground with your feet while standing over the top tube and your not sitting on the tube seems good. obviously alittle clearance is definitly good to have. Go for the 53. Everything i said might not make the most sense or be that logical or the best advise but whatever.

50 is going to be tight standover with a 28" inseem, but if you have a super long torso the 50 may be more comfortable to you so you won't be to scrunched up.
Fit calculator. Then go from there.

I'm the same size as you and I have the 53 Kilo. I think it fits just fine... and there's no toe overlap or anything. I think if you went with the smaller frame/tighter wheel base you'd have to watch out for that. Go 53!
