I had my first real crash on the street yesterday... Some lady was backing up at full speed in the right lane. I was riding under the elevated tracks and when I swerved to avoid hitting her I smashed into one of the support beams for the subway shoulder first... the lady pulled up after she saw me and when I started limping to her car she peeled out and booked it... Im ****in moving out of queens

I live on the edge of queens and one of my jobs is there. I swear I have SOOOO many more close calls in queens than anywhere else. In manhattan I can ride in traffic all day. In queens they drive crazier and pay absolutely no attention to you (imo). Where was this?

worst part was that I was on the ground clutching my leg with a semi wrecked bike in the street and not one person out of about 20 stopped to see if I was ok,
Sad story dude. I'm glad you're relatively ok. Were you wearing a helmet? I hope karama pays that b!tch back.

I flagged down a policeman and filed a report, and lucky I was wearing a helmet. I can see a nice white streak where my head grazed the iron beam

That is good. You did have her license plate number?
I am glad you are alright, though. This type of stuff is what makes me hate the majority of the population.

I got half a plate #. the cop told me its hard to track them down even if I had the full # but he would put out a call. and it all happened literally hours after I put my brand new handlebars and brake levers on. but I looked cool as I creamed that beam though so its all good.

yea that's happened to me as well when riding under the train in the Bronx. I don't think there's nothing that can be done though since you and her car didn't make any contact. At least you're relatively ok though. When it happened to me, the lady just looked at me totally clueless and I don't think she knew what she did. I just stared her down and then continued riding. Other around were just looking as well. Thankfully, there wasn't a car behind me

actually if you cause an accident and leave knowing you caused an accident you can be charged with "fleeing the scene of an accident" its a misdemeanor if no ones hurt but If I was injured she could get 42 months in jail and or a $10,000 fine.

yea queens drivers don't pay attention to anything. i ride on Queens Blvd all the time and it's like they TRY to run you over. I've had dudes speed up along side me to cut me off only to stop in front of me.

hmm, I didn't know that. One time when I had to get stitches, due to a car causing me to fall by not signaling (they stopped and then kept going), I called the cops right after it happened. Even though I didn't hit the car, they told me that there's nothing they could do since contact wasn't made.

Atta kid...way to be smart and wear a helmet.

that happened to me today, and then the guy proceeded to back up without looking until I tapped on his trunk and waved to him...

Cops of all people don't know the law.
Car insurance in NY requires drivers to pay into a fund to enable some payment for uninsured drivers and hit-and-run accidents. PM me if you want contact info for a lawyer who can tell you more about this. It sounds like your help and maybe bar tape are the only things that were damaged on your bike and you weren't really injured. Pursuing this may not be worth it, unless there is a way for you to do it without hiring a lawyer.
