Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - That's So Tight...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So today my wife and I were taking advantage of the nice weather and riding down to a cool used bookstore, mostly to satisfy my hunger for cookbooks. Along the way, I notice a ground of children all with bikes, stopped on the corner. The chain had fallen off on of their bikes from hitting a rock or something, so I volunteered my services (I always do). I unclick my shoes and lay the bike down on the ground, and put this kids chain back on.
Right as I finish up, one little girl asks me, "Mister, how do you ride with such small pedals?"
"Well, I have these cool shoes which allow me to snap into my pedals," I reply.
With bright eyes and a sincere sense of excitement, another girl says "Fo Real? That's SO Tight!!"
I get a stupid grin on my face and agree "Yeah," after which I proceeded to point out how my pedals matched the tape/saddle etc.
It just made me smile, I guess it doesn't really have much to do with SS/FG, except, um, the bike I fixed for them was a SS...

I always get cookbooks when I go to the library. The best one I have seen in a while is Rocco the TV guys book "Flavor". I don't usuallly get the mainstream TV peoples book but this one is exceptional.
Riding hard and eating large!!!

I'll have to check that one out. I generally use the library too, because I find most cookbooks pretty mediocre so I want to scope them before buying. Ingredients can be esoteric and I'm not keen on spending three hours in prep and cooking. Eating Well cookbooks kick a$$ and their quarterly magazine is exceptional. One of the few magazines where I would want to make everything in them. http://www.eatingwell.com/ You can get a lot of their recipes online. The easy salmon cakes are great -- so's the spice crusted tofu for you veg heads.
GM - good karma for helping the kids

Eating Well cookbooks kick a$$ (EDITED)
why bother doing this? ****EDITED**** doesn't matter...if he is SO concerned about the forums, have him buy a red star. Grammar and diction do not pay the bills in here.

Similar story for me yesterday. Passing the Shedd Aquarium and a group of 20-30 6th graders eating their sack lunches. They salute as I pass and one kid says "wow, that's the quietest bike yet." Made my day.

File under: so cute I could puke.
"quietest bike yet"
sounds like a town without a coaster-brakes (or peripheral sound).
