I'm considering installing compressed air outlets in my basement shop. I soldered this stuff at work a bunch of times, but I don't remember one important detail: is there a special type of copper pipe that must be used for compressed air? Is the home depot stuff used for water sufficient to withstand the pressures? I feel like it would be, but want to be sure. I never bought the pipe at work; it was always supplied to me.

We use copper pipe at work for our air. I believe its just the regular pipe, but will ask.

I'd use Type L for my own sanity. When I learned brazing I had to make a square with a schrader tap.

To test it I had to put it around my neck while it was pumped to 400psi.

I think you'll be fine, I'd be asking about the max PSI of soldered joints.

Copper lines work just fine for compressed air. Probably more important for home use is either an oil-free compressor or a good filter. Non-oil-free air can be a pain if you're trying to blow dust off an object with compressed air.
