Mountain Bike Racing - rough day

So - I'm training for this Cascade creampuff race coming up. I need a long day - so I ride from my house (in WA) to ID to ride Courdlnane Mtn -the caribou ridge trail, (maybe Diminor has ridden it and can comment) ride to the top and descend the nasty stuff. No problem - all is well. Heading home, the road turns to gravel - very loose. I get to the top, second time on the road today - Have not seen a car yet. Start descending, cross to the left side (yea, I know) because it had a smooth line. Pull bottle, tilt head back, and a full size truck comes ripping around the corner. Left hand on bar - tap front brake - and I'm down at @ 20 MPH. They stopped - I let them know it was my fault and I was happy they did not run over me and hospital time was not required at this point. I rode the final 30 miles with no issue - but I will not ride tomorrow.

Nothing scares me more than high speed turns on gravel roads

I think I'm going to have to check out the Caribou Ridge trail - - second time in the last couple weeks I'd heard it mentioned. Hadn't ever been on my radar before.

Glad you're OK. That's one thing you can count encountering on in the N. ID backwoods: pickup truck or a four-wheeler hangin' it out. Gotta watch them gravel roads.

I rode the Caribou Ridge trail again yesterday with my son - We did it as a XC ride. Up 257 and down the technical stuff. Talked to a bunch of DH guys that were shuttling it - they were surprised we were doing it on HTs. I don't think it really matters on that trail - a DH bike is not much of an advantage.

Hells yes - the wrong driver and I would have been dead.

In all the years I've been riding, and all the run ins I've had with cars - this is the first time it was my fault. I guess I will count it as a lesson learned.

Yep - that is what we rode.

The DHrs use a big truck and drive to the top of 79 via the road.
