Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Beware SoCal

On Friday I'm going to LA for 3 weeks. I shipped my bike a
couple days ago so if everything goes well I'll be cruising around
the land of Schwarzenegger. I made a post earlier in the road
bike forum for places to ride and got some real good stuff.

The question is do any of you SS/Fixies want to meet up
to go for a ride? It'd be pretty cool to roll around with a
local (eats & drinks on me, it'd be like an internet date!).

anyways keep an eye out for me. I'll be the the flatlander
barrelling down mulholland dr totally lost & loving it.

actually no. I don't know if my bike'll be there by then and I'm going to Cubs vs. Angels. its sad I can only see the cubs in CA. How about the weekend of the 26th?

There's a small but fun LA critical mass ride Friday the 25th...

Sunset Blvd. at Parkman Ave.
Gather 6:00pm, Depart 6:30pm

Every other Friday there's a ride in Silverlake, the Midnight Ridaz. Lots of fixies and malt liquor. Next one's tomorrow the 11th, then the 25th. Meet at Magic Gas, 3 blocks north of Sunset on Echo Park Blvd. Gather 9:30, roll at 10.

Sat. the 26th there's a ride out in the Valley, check out http://www.choppercabras.org/

All the other group rides I do are more training type rides, not appropriate for ss/fix with all the hills here in LA.

If you have a proper road bike and want to do some fast riding, check out lagrange.org socalcycling.com and sbwheelmen.org for some good ones.

I'd recommend a highish gear, at least 75 inches. Most major streets in LA have traffic speeds in the 40-50 mph range, so you want to be able to cruise at 20-25 so you don't get whacked from behind. Needless to say, don't go brakeless if you don't want to spend your vacation in a coma.

if you roll down to OC.. I live about 10 minutes from Angel Stadium... we sooo need a SoCal fixie meet

Short 'n' easy...maybe 10 miles usually with a stop at a liquor store halfway through.
