I'm considering getting into racing next year (nowhere close to ready right now), but was wondering if you have to be part of a team to enter things like the Fayetteville Stage Race. At the few crits I've seen, it seems like everyone is wearing matching jerseys.

You do not have to join a team; you can race unattached. There will be several unattached racers in Cat5. Go to the Road Bike Racing forum and read the stickied threads; there is a lot of information there.

You might consider doing one of the races late in the season just to get that first race out of the way. Plus, you'll get a better feeling of what you need to do over the winter to be ready for next spring.
