I recently dug out my 6-speed Brompton:

1) How the heck are you supposed to shift the gears on this again? The left side is for the deraileur, yes? and the right has 3 positions and two "levers" that seem equally tough to shift, I heard something about pedaling backwards to have it shift smoothly but I haven't had much luck so far.

2) Is there a place anywhere to buy parts to lighten it online?

3) How do I go about adding the eazy wheels and rear rack, since mine doesn't have it. All I can seem to find is various individual parts.

4) I'd really like to murder it out as well, can someone link me to a site that also has compatible black-spoked wheels?

5) Along the same lines I guess, any decent independent companies make good aftermarket parts?

I'll answer the ones I know about.

1. Yes, left lever is deraileur, right is hub On the 6-speed, you double-shift to get through the gears in sequence. You have to reduce pressure on the pedals to allow the epicyclic gears to engage/disengage. If it won't change gear smartly while coasting, you need to adjust the tension where the cable attaches to the indicator chain, or your hub needs re-greasing which is a fiddly job.

2. and 3. St. John Street (http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/category-Brompton-766.htm) is the best place I know of for Brompton parts, you can get the Ti rear triangle, front forks, seatpost etc. and also the rack and easy wheels parts, but it won't be cheap.

Actually, when I ordered brommie parts from SJS they were cheaper than if I had ordered them from dealers in the US...

4. If an LBS near you has a spoke cutter, you can probably get them to cut you replacement spokes of any color you want if you ask nicely.:p The brommie has 150mm spokes.
