There should be a few day-of registration slots for those who wanted to ride but missed the cut-off - just get there early!

That's the best part.
I guarantee you will know lots of people by the rides end.

It was a pretty slow ride when I did it 2 years ago.
Hopefully the limited registration will correct that.

stroll, at least every time I've done it.

It's more about community, people, seeing the neighborhoods. Same with the Td Queens (July 12).

If you want more of a workout, try the TA Century in Sept - some neighborhood pootling, but you also get some chances to stretch out - and I have never done the Td Bronx (Oct.) but I hear the 40 mile course is very challenging and fun.

If we wanna be cyber-dorks we could always do a BF meet-up somewhere .... where the heck is it starting this year, anyway? Still at Grand Army Plz?

I think I will be going. Hoping to make same-day registration cutoff. Oh it's gonna be a very early morning for me.

And I guess it's good this is a slow ride b/c my poor bike is pretty darn slow I noticed.

I actually own a BF jersey so I could be the chief dork if people wanna hook up at the start (look for BF logo on fat tummy in bright yellow)

Offhand I'd say the pace is probably a non-stop 12 - 14 mph with a single rest stop at the mid point. It's a group ride, almost like Critical Mass except nobody gets arrested and there's a friendly police escort. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz usually shows up in his Brooklyn jersey to cheer everyone on. The route is closed to traffic and police hold traffic at the intersections instead of arresting cyclists.

Cycling in the City should be like this everyday :p

pgoat
06-02-09, 06:37 AM
actually since it's only a 23 mile pootle the wife and I were thinking of riding to the start from Queens (Jackson Heights). It's about a 90 min. subway ride for us, so we'd just as soon get a ride in instead...

Anyone interested in hooking up along the way?

B, D, F, N trains to Stillwell Avenue, or Q to Sheepshead Bay with a small walk on Surf Avenue to Keyspan Stadium.

I plan on biking to Keyspan Park. My route will take me through Grand Army Plaza into Prospect Park then taking Ocean Parkway all the way down.

If anyone wants to join me, let me know. The route I planned is 99% on greenway (no cars) and I'm on a small-wheeled, slow folding bike so no worries if you are a newbie. :D

Here's a map of the route: http://www.ridethecity.com/index.php?rid=139357&region=nyc

That's a real nice ride..and safe too.

At that time of the morning there won't be many pedestrians on the Ocean Parkway bike path.

Enjoy :thumb:

No, that's wrong. The D,F,N or Q to Coney Island/Stillwell. No B on the weekend, and it doesn't go all the way in any case.

As for the TdeBronx, I've done it a few times and it is a much better ride than TdeBrooklyn.

And be careful of turning cars on Ocean Parkway. That's the one thing I've never liked about that path, and I've been riding it on and off for 40 years. Mostly off now.

Thanks! I added a map of the route too just in case someone unfamiliar with the route wants to know how to get there. :)

I'm trying to log as many miles as I can in anticipation of the NYC Century (100 miles). It's on, baby! Woot! :D

Yep, I'm aware of the turning cars but at that early on a Sunday morning it won't be a problem. :)

Which ones? There aren't any really difficult ones in the city....

Yesterday, I got an email update for the Tour de Brooklyn -- just a reminder of what to bring, what time to show up, etc. In the email they stated that there will be $5 parking in Keyspan Park if you print out the email and had it to the attendant when parking your car. Did you get the email update?

On another note: My padded bike shorts came today via UPS today. I tried them on... They are a size Small but they feel loose... Bike shorts are supposed to be form-fitting, right?

I need Extra-Small but I think I'm stuck with these Small ones... I don't have time to have any new ones shipped and I don't have time to go shopping to pick up a smaller pair.

Oh joy! I'm gonna have baggy bike shorts for the ride! If you want to find me, just look for the girl with the folding bike and the baggy bike shorts. LOL! :D

Isn't there a rule to never mess around with your standards on race/ride day? That includes trying out new, untested clothes, fiddling around with your bike (seat, stem adjustments, etc), eating different food, and trying out your brand new components and gadgetry.

If you were doing okay without bike shorts on longer rides, I would suggest you don't use the new padded shorts for the tour and ride what you're comfortable in. Exchange the shorts you ordered for the proper size since lycra that's "baggy" seems excessively large!

Just my 2 cents.

KitN
06-05-09, 02:35 PM
I make my own rules, lol. Sure, the day of the race/ride you shouldn't tinker with anything. Everything should be checked, set and ready to go the day (or night) before the race/ride.

Yah, the shorts feel a little roomy for bike shorts. I'll see how I feel and decide to send them back of just keep them for the days I feel "bloated" or ate too much pie. ;)

jeebusaurousrex
06-05-09, 02:45 PM
I guess the "rule" is so you don't use the ride as testing grounds. If you can get some good saddle time in tomorrow (oh I hope the weather's nice) and find the shorts comfortable for a few hours then you're rockin for Sunday's ride!

KitN
06-05-09, 03:14 PM
Yah, tonight's T-U CP Moonlight ride was supposed to be my testing grounds for the shorts but no such luck since it's canceled. I'll just wait until the rain officially stops late tonight to get a nice long ride in or get a long ride in Saturday morning to test the shorts. :thumb:

I'm getting really excited and can't wait for Sunday. :D

I'd send 'em back KitN. They should be snug.

what brand are they? My wife has had good luck with Pearl Izumi, but she's also bought Descente, which makes women's-specific stuff....
