Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Sorry I didn't take photos of the historic event. I am a bike commuter and my wife and I try to ride on the weekends for a pleasure ride usually 30 to 50 miles. Well my youngest daughter has one of those repro Schwinns with 7 speeds and a basket up front (Wald) and the large double jobs (again Wald) in the back. I just scored a 62 Schwinn Tiger with the two speed hub and put a set of the medium Wald baskets in the back,so today we did a grocery run. It was great not to have to look for a parking spot. Just cruise up to the rack lock up and go. We got a few curious looks from some folks and one person ask how far we had to go. when I told him its only a mile he said "man thats a good idea and you look set up for it pretty well." I then told him he should try it. We live in a small town and its flat so why not. It was really fun and we took our time getting home hitting a couple garage sales. We didn't have anything that would spoil and it was as I said a hoot. I'll have to post some shots of the bikes next time we get them all loaded with groceries.

I'm right behind you. Been commuting for a while now, and, since I only live 1 mile from downtown, decided to start doing my 'runs into town' by bike. I've got a rack and have been looking to get basket/bags...something to haul the goods in (that's why I'm here in the utility forum). I did a couple of runs to the auto parts store yesterday and it was quicker than taking the car (the guys at the auto store ask me if I'd gotten a DUI). The wife and I are really getting into this puttering about town by bike simply because it's so enjoyable...and we hate to exercize. Bicycling isn't exercize is it? : )
Anything to make a grocery run fun...right?

Absolutely! It gets to be fun to see how much you can haul home.

Yep...the Big Dummy is calling to me. ;) I actually think, with the right setup, I can haul what we buy on our normal weekly grocery run. If I have to make two trips...well, it's only a mile.

I know I can get a shopping cart's worth of groceries into my trailer, but I haven't maxxed out the bags-yet.
