This is very noobish, but I need help!

I bought a pair of these shoes: http://www.exustar.com/sm102.php to use with my Candy SL pedals.

I've got the Crank Bros cleats, but I can't seem to clip in. I tried using the shims, but I still can't seem to clip in.

What the hell should I do?

Okay so i realized that the wings of the pedal aren't even spreading, as if they are seized. What the hell do I do now?!

It's obviously not a shoe problem. There should be adjusting screws fore and/or aft on the pedals. Loosen them.

Crank Brothers pedals do NOT have any adjustments...

The pedals are either seized (unlikely that BOTH would be) OR he's not applying enough force...

I rode Quattros for over 3 years and really liked them. Zero problems in that time.

They are used pedals that came on the used bike I bought... and I'm pretty sure I am applying enough force.

The wings won't even move if I press down on them.

If they are seized, can I use penetrating oil on the spring and/or inside the pedal to help it free up? Does the seizing involve the internals of the pedal, and thus I need to grease it or rebuild it?

Can you clip into any of the pedals? It doesn't matter which shoe you put a cleat on so you can clip into your right pedal with your left foot (just for testing purposes obviously!)

No I can't clip in at all. The wings don't seem to spread to accept my cleat, so the cleat seems like it's "too big" to engage. And I've tried putting A LOT of pressure and nothing happens.

This sounds like you have the wrong cleats for the pedal

Do your cleats look like this (not just similar, but exactly like [except for colour])

Try some WD-40. Go to an LBS and make sure you have the right cleats. They are not complicated contraptions.

One other question: will the wings spin independent of the pedal platform?

Okay guys I just doused them in Tri-flow and they seem to be working fairly well now... I just need to be able to get the muscle memory in of how to clip in and out without falling over and being trapped

The SL's are made of stainless, so they have either been sitting for a long time or have been really mistreated. I just looked at a rebuild video on the Crank Brothers site and the process is pretty straightforward. If things don't move quietly, you might want to consider buying a rebuild kit...
