I have avid bb7 mech discs, nice brake for a nice price. As far as mavic wheels I had problems with my crossrides. They would not stay true, but I am 215 lbs. I had my lbs build me a wheelset. The cost was around $200 a wheel but well worth it. Search mtbr.com for product reviews also.
