Professional Cycling - Di Luca should have riden a TT bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
He would have closed the 20'' gap with a TT bike.

You don't know that. With the difficulty of the course it may have slowed him down.

I don't think Di Luca would've won, period. Heck, Menchov crashed and still beat Di Luca by 21 seconds on the course.
a TT bike wouldn't have helped him, he's not a TT guy so he might as well just take the corners faster than possible with a TT setup
Menchov would have won the stage if not for the crash. A TT for Di Luca would not have made a difference.

di luca didn't ride today. It was his twin, ryan seacrest! tt bike or not he would have not closed the 20" gap.

A TT bike and a 50 watt motor - maybe.
Dedicated TT bikes shave a few seconds on the right courses. Menchov probably lost at least 20 seconds when he went down - maybe more. And still beat him by 20 seconds. So Menchov would've beat him by 40 and already had 20 in hand. Even if it had been a perfectly straight and smooth course, the bike isn't going to make 40 seconds of difference on a 15k TT let alone 60. The manufacturers would have you think so but it's just not the case.
Think of when LeMond beat Fignon. Everybody said that the bars and helmet were the difference. But LeMond took like 40 seconds and won by eight. Maybe aero bars and helmets would've saved Le Professor 8 seconds and the Tour, but he still would've lost the TT by a big margin. If LeMond had gone into it 40 seconds ahead, it wouldn't have been particularly close at all.
