Northeast - Suggestions for non-cycling wife in Maine?

Folks,
My wife and I are going to drive from GA to Maine this summer and I'd like to do a little low key cycling while there. She doesn't mind riding at a slow-moderate pace on fairly level roads...but feels more secure on a Mtn. Bike or better yet a hybrid.

So...any cycling suggestions for a day or two in Maine....especially if rental bikes might be available.

ME is a pretty big state, where in ME are you looking at. Acadia is always a nice suggestion for riding on carriage roads with rentals available in Bar Harbor, etc. But depends on where you'll be...

my introduction to MTBs was on a wonderful trip to Bar Harbor. We rented Specialized hard Rocks and tooted around Acadia National Park fire roads. We had four in our group, with skills ranging from very good to total beginner cyclist - and everyone had fun. It's very pretty, so you can always get off and walk the bikes and enjoy the view, or pootle around town, grab a bite etc.

For Bar Harbor... rent the bikes at the place on the corner as you come into town.
Then drive down to the Jordan Pond Tea House. Ride around there for a while, and then have lunch at the tea house. Order popovers with strawberry jam and the lobster chowder. Trust me on this one. The carriage road that goes up the mountain is a treat, it's a steady incline that isn't too bad and the views are quite nice.

In the Old Port skip the boat and go to J's Oyster Bar, order oysters and split a bouilliabase. There's a J Jill outlet in Kittery, your wife might like that.
