My son is doing a PACtour, 30 day cross country trip, this summer. It is a supported tour so he will be on a road bike.

Last summer he was on an unsupported cross country trip on a touring bike on Schwalbe Supreme tires (700 x 35). One flat in 3,000 miles - a big hit.

I am looking for tire recommendations for the road bike. It will be mostly paved roads. I'm guessing we want something 700 x 25.

Any recommendations for this extended trip are greatly appreciated.

I've had good luck so far this year with a set of 25mm Conti Gatorskins. I've had 2 flats, bot unrelated to the tires, first a valve failed and then i pinched the replacement tube >.<

Low rolling resistance, good grip, comfortable ride and easy to install/remove(on CXP-33 rims at least) and not overly expensive, I'd recommend them for anyone :-)

there's a post here about shopping for long distance tires. hmm. right over here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=532074&highlight=tires). of course, here are some search results (http://www.bikeforums.net/search.php?searchid=6090141) for 'tires' in the long distance forum.

I'm doing the same PacTour this summer. I'm going to be running 25c gatorskins for the ride.

gatorskins seem a bit overkill for this type of riding - esp fully supported.
i'm a fan of the conti gp 4 seasons - they are a bit softer than the gatorskins (from my experience) and roll a bit smoother. still plenty tough - as i ride gravel, dirt, and pavement here in VT.

I did a cross country ride with America by Bicycle in 2007, using Specialized Armadillo Elite 23's -- had only one flat -- and I've never used anything else since. Well, I take that back -- I'm using their 25's on my rando bike. Great tires.
