I am on the crew team and train hard 5 days a week. I also used to race in mountain bike races and do relatively well. I have been looking into trying to race road bikes but am unable to gauge my physical peformance on a road bike. I am wondering whether crew training and previous extensive mountain biking experiance will translate into good road biking performance. Thank you.

Maybe...

Hook up with one of your local A group rides and see what happens. If you get shelled, you'll know you have a lot of work in front of you. If you ride away from them, that's also a good indication that you may have some potential.

Also you'll need to remember, a fast group rides is not nearly as tough as a real road race.

Good Luck
