I'm really tired of Lance/Tyler/Postal mania.
I feel ya Laggard. I'm not so much tired of Tyler; I think Phonak has a strong team this year. But, I'm sick of the Lance/Postal mania.
I like Tyler Hamilton too. We share the same name and come from the same state.
About the Lancemania thing - I'm a huge fan of Lance, he's one of my favorites, and I kind of hope he wins this year (but I won't be disappointed if he doesn't) but I think that the Tour will be much more exciting after he's gone - more open. I'd love to see some Ullrich vs Mayo battles.

Who cares?

Why care?
But, I'm sick of the Lance/Postal mania.
Is it really that terrible?
Brent - you know, it kind of grates on you after awhile. I love Lance as much as the next cycling fan, but it can get kind of boring with the same guy winning over.. and over... and over.

Please don't tell me you would rather see Mr60percent win. ;)
I want Lance to win this year, but if he can't do it I'd like Jan or Mayo to win. Preferably Jan.

I agree that there is too much focus on Lance. He is not the only person in cycling. As much as I admire him and want him to do well, I'm sick of hearing about him...
Go Tyler!

I too am a big Tyler fan.. he's jsut tough as nails...
as far as Lance goes.. how can you not be at least a little bit of a fan.. as far as someone said the Tour will be better after he is gone ? It might be, but how damn exciting is it to have one guy that EVERYBODY tries to take down... remember last year, wehn you ahd liek 3 or 4 guys attacking him going up in some of the mountian stages... they all want to beat him, because they know that (at least for right now) he is the best racing in the TdF... to me that IS exciting...

I'm also a fan of Lance and USPS. I'm also a fan of Tyler (and Phonak to some extent). I'm also a fan of CSC. I'm also a fan of... You get the picture. I never understood the concept of having to be against something or someone to be for something else and/or someone else. I have always felt that those kinds of things were reserved for games and not sports. As one other poster put it in another thread, cycling is a sport; baseball is a game.

I'm a fan of good, competetive cycling. I'd like to see the yellow jersey exchange hands every day in the mountains, and I'd like to see 5 or 6 guys within 2 minutes going into the stage 19 ITT. This year, it just might happen. I can't wait!
Tyler got my respect in the 2002 Giro, and then again in the 2003 TdF. He is such a fighter when hurt. Now that he's a ligitimate contender for the #1 spot in the TdF, I'm torn. I also have much respect for Lance, but I do understand how some may think the Lance mania is getting a bit old.
Go Lance! Go Tyler! Go Iban! Go Jan! Go Roberto! It's too bad that only one will end up on top - and it may not even be one of the racers I just listed. I love le Tour. :)

Tyler crashed today on the D-L. Anyone knows how badly hurt he was even though he did manage to finish the stage? He said he did a Beloki, but I hope it wasn't too serious.

I am a Texan who is pulling for Tyler. Just imagine the grief I catch.

He finished with the group containing all the GC contenders. Hopefully just superficial injuries like Lance's crash here last year.

I would love to see Lance win the TDF and make it 6, but the other person I would want to see wearing yellow at the end would be Tyler.

That is why I'm not a big Hamilton fan... he doesn't seem to have the handling skills.

You can picture the team manager groaning and saying, "Oh well, we need another kit for Tyler  ". :)

I was going to post the exact same sentence.
Weird.
Some crashes are bad luck. Some riders seem to have a lot of bad luck. So much bad luck that you start to wonder if there's more to it than luck.
What are you trying to say, Laggard?

Ask David Moncoutie. He knows all about not being able to keep the rubber side down. Good climber, good time trialer, great crasher. :)
The fact that there is "Mania!" at all about cycling in this country is in my opinion a good thing. I got sick to death of Michael Jordan, but the NBA would be dead had it not been for him. This country needs a superstar to put the sport on the map. If cycling catches on in this country The Frogs better get used to seeing Americans in yellow. :D

Personally I think the whole Lance craze is great!!! Anything that puts cycling in the national media here in the US is a good thing. I mean during the Tour de France we might even get some coverage on ESPN. I just wish people here looked at cycling more as a sport and less like a hobby. It is such a great sport and you just have to search so hard to find it around here. I think Lance is a great thing for the sport. To me it's sort of like what Tiger Woods did for golf. He got kids excited about playing golf. This guy comes along, dominates, and all of a sudden you can't turn on the tv without some sort of golf show on. Maybe Lance can do something similar to that for cycling.

Agreed.
I just wish that the mania would extend further than Lance and the TDF.

Well, we're in the US and, as good as Tyler is, he ain't no Armstrong :) Heck, you've got a man who survived cancer against the odds and is poised to crush the record for one of the most grueling sporting events ever imagined (and he's an American in a traditioanlly European-dominated sport). I'd be surprised (and a bit worried) if this wasn't the case. And if you think there's "Lance Mania" try watching regular TV. See how many times you hear "Lance Armstrong" mentioned. Heck, even during the Tour, I bet you'll hear his name a gand total of 20 times. What we consider "mania" is unfortunately a footnote for most Americans... All I can is say is that, if nothing else, he's given cycling some much-needed publicity in the US and I honestly think makes me a bit safer on the roads. I think some of the people passing me think "Hey. That's what that Lance Armstrong guy does" and they give me 2 more inches when they pass :D
