Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - advise needed

soon i will be buying all the parts/frame to build a track bike.i have my mind set on the cinelli olmpic,i'm not sure which hubset is better-phillwood or dura ace high flange, what drilling,32-36 for street use,what lacing tecnique yeilds the strongest wheel ,also which chain width is best 3/32 or 1/8? help.

I would say for the strongest setup to go Phil, 36 hole (3x laced front and rear), and 1/8. If you have to skimp on something go for the smaller chain.

unless you are a super big dude, I'd go with 2x in the rear, and a radially laced front...it'd look HOT with those Phils!!!!!!

From what i know (never having either of these hubs) Phils are the best hubs on the market. Not saying DA are bad by any means. I would love to have either.

so your saying that radial lacing looks kool, but is it as strong as 2x or 3x? Also i like to know does my choice of BB width or rear wheel offset affect chain alignmnt?

Radial works in the front due to the lack of torque on the front wheel. As for being as strong I don't think so but I've been running my front radial for over 6 months of street riding and have never needed to true it.

what looks better a 28- or 32-hole radial front? any noticeable differences? should i be more careful on a 28-hole radially laced rim... like avoid the potholes and such?

Yup. They all look the same when spinning. I stop occasionally, I would recomend stopping once in a while ;) As for rims, it depends on what look you want. V's look cool but so do the open pros. I have an open pro in the front/ma3 in the rear. For no other reason but that they were the parts I had laying around. Go to your LBS and look at the rims. See what floats your boat.

if he was building an off-road SS or FG, then I'd agree...but not for a track bike...

Companies like King, Pauls and Campy (along with many others) won't warranty their hubs if they fail while radial laced. I understand he's gonna ride his track bike on the street. I ride my track on the street. I don't baby it. But I don't run up and down curbs at high speed. I'm 200 lbs and haven't had any problems.

Well if you think about it, the more spokes the stronger the wheel...

Unless you are gram obsessive, the utilitarian wheel has 36+ spokes due to the brute strength it posesses. I don't know of any higher spoke count hubs, outside of tandem, tricked out lowrider wheels, finding a fixed 48 hole hubs is something that might proove a little difficult.
