Great Lakes - ToAD/Superweek: The official thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Bonus points if you can guess where this was taken.
Hard to tell from the photo, but I bet most of you would get it right.

****. The year was 1754.

Yup that's ****, but you're a bit off on the year.
1976.
Where might it be taken? Think BIG race. (then I'll show you the whole pic)

Downer Ave?
John Wilke

Correct! That will give you an additional 5 points and so according to my calculations, that will put you in the lead for the overall competition!!
Congratulations!!

Haha. The bike dork competition maybe. So where'd you get the photo?

Check the site, man.
More coming ... I'm told.
So, yeah, **** owned a Sentry food store on Downer Ave right where the S/F is. I think it's a CVS now. So, if you're the president of the USCF and you want to put on a race, why not in front of your store, eh?

Don't know where else to stick this, so here's where it goes. Rumor has it, and mind you that I'm on the end of the line for these kind of things, that Johan Bruyneel and company had his eyes on Matt Busche for next year's Radio Shack team. Just what the terms were or what they were looking for, and why Busche went with Kelly Benefits, I have no idea, but to let you folks know that when you're out there racing, people are watching!

Yeah...no they're not. I'm happy when my family watches.

It was during the Tour of Utah when Axel Merckx noticed him.

Frankie Andreu to direct Team Kenda Pro Cycling
Published: Oct. 16, 2009
Press Release
CLEVELAND, Ohio (October 16, 2009) – After its first season as a UCI Continental (Pro) Team, Kenda Pro Cycling continues to grow and expand, welcoming Frankie Andreu on board next season as director sportif, and Gear Grinder, a cyclist-specific casual clothing company as the new presenting sponsor.
After twelve years as a professional cyclist (1989-2000) for America’s top teams – 7-Eleven, Motorola, and USPS - Andreu has worked as a director for top American teams (e.g., Toyota-United and Rock Racing) in addition to commentating for Universal Sports and Versus. He also has an elite coaching program and engages in motivational speaking all across America.
...
Another boost to the program is the addition of new presenting sponsor, Gear Grinder. Along with the partnership with Paul Weaver, co-founder of Gear Grinder apparel, came the recruitment of Chad Hartley, James Stemper, and Rob White from Weaver’s Gear Grinder Elite Team, a dominant presence in the Mid-West last season. Hartley, who came back from a successful surgery to repair his iliac endofibrosis to dominate the Tour of America’s Dairyland, and Stemper, who won Superweek’s Best Amateur prize, will be added to the pro roster, while White will join the elite ranks for 2010.
...
Team updates are available at www.kendaprocycling.com.
Plus, I was just reading on Stemper's seldomly updated blog, that he's moving to AZ in November.

Yes it is! Lets just say 2010 will be even better! New courses added, some subtracted.....I have details, but it's a little hush hush for a bit yet. But the Milk Marketing Board is still on for a title sponsor, so it will remain the ToAD for next year! Yay for Chocolate Milk!

In both 2008 and 2009 (http://tourofelkgrove.com/event_schedule.cfm) there were Cat 3 and Cat 4 races on Saturday, then a masters 3/4 on Sunday. (In 2008, the masters was 30+. In 2009, 35+.)

Don't get excited, people. I am digging up this thread to declare (in my opinion) that Superweek is on life support. Forget the rumors, witness:
2010 Superweek schedule announced July 28, 2009 (http://twitter.com/ICCSUPERWEEK/status/2897383087)
2 days later, planning began (http://twitter.com/ICCSUPERWEEK/status/2945852952)
New web page in the work by 8/14/09 (http://twitter.com/ICCSUPERWEEK/status/3323015409)
10/5 and we're going to have a new web page! (http://twitter.com/ICCSUPERWEEK/status/4641866990)
Big new (unconfirmed) sponsors lined up shortly after! (http://twitter.com/ICCSUPERWEEK/status/4747670181)
What color do you want to see on the new superweek web page? (http://twitter.com/ICCSUPERWEEK/status/5036762421)
On 10/28, you were told to keep an eye open because the new web site was coming! (http://twitter.com/ICCSUPERWEEK/status/5248574188)
It's February and the new web site is coming soon! (http://twitter.com/ICCSUPERWEEK/status/9409548132)
It's March, and the new web site and schedule are coming soon! (http://www.pelotonstar.com/2010/03/2010-supeweek.html)
I know I may be in a somewhat different situation, but if I'm going to take off a few days in July, I tend to need to know 4-5 months in advance. I don't mean to be edgy, but I'm about to schedule some quality July racing somewhere else.
Superweek has released absolutely 0 substantive information since the end of the series last year. We hear lots about their planning meetings and web page, though. How about even a little nugget to let us know you're alive and there may actually be a series this year?
It's April. Your new web page has been in the works for nearly 9 months. Since that time, countless highschool children have likely gone from being virgins to being parents. Superweek, what are you doing?
Am I the only one who cares?

They're slow every year. Everybody says that they're not coming back every spring, but somehow the Garrisons pull it off.
