So I estimate the mileage on my child's trailer to be between 750 and 850 miles. Earlier last week it seemed really hard to pull, and I thought I was just burning out from too many miles. (I had to do significantly more last week for errands.) Then Saturday I notice that one of the wheels is tilted to the side by maybe 10 or 15 degrees, like I had hit a curb too hard with it or something. No wonder it had been so hard to pull! Anyways, I pull it home 12 miles Saturday, then go 6 to church on Sunday. Coming back from church the top of the tire starts to rub against the material on the side of the trailer. 5 minutes afterward, the wheel fell off. More accurately, the axle (if that's what you want to call it, i guess) broke right where it meets the tire, causing the bottom of the trailer to drag about 15 feet as we quickly came to a halt.
The first thing my 3 year old says is, "Dad, where's the tire!?"
Luckily a couple came by with a trailer and offered to put my son next to theirs so we could get to my friends house and catch a ride home. The whole time I kept thinking about Ron White: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHT84A5t418
So if you see a kid's trailer on the side of the W&OD, you can have it if you want. I'll be picking it up with my new trailer sometime this week, but if it's gone by then, I wouldn't be surprised.

What brand is your new trailer and why did you buy it? For that matter, what was you old trailer and why is it such a piece of junk? I've seen some pretty iffy trailers around and wonder if I would put a kid in ...
LOL to the Ron White bit! Exactly what I was thinking as I read your story.

My new one is a Burley, and I need a trailer to get around. I didn't want to buy new tires for the old one to find out somebody had picked it up.
The old one was Bell, and in all honesty, I was probably pretty hard on it. When the kiddo wasn't in it, I kind of forgot about it, and probably went ludicrous speed over some curbs I shouldn't have. My own dumb fault.
Sorry for the breakdown but pretty funny. I passed that thing on the way to work and thought that there was an interesting story behind it.

You really passed the OP's abandoned trailer? What a small world we live in on the internet! :D

The North Eastern US is pretty crowded. I see a ton of people living in cities I've been in at some point for some errand or another.
Richmond, DC, Baltimore, Annapolis, and Philadelphia are all within 3 hours or less drive from me.

Drive?

Yep. Or 12 hours ride if you prefer. That's if you take the highway.

Burley sounds likes a good brand, so it will probably last longer than the Bell. I don't know if it will stand up to daily travel. It was probably designed more for weekend traffic. But you'll get longer out of it than the Bell.
Have you ever looked at the Bob single wheel trailers?

I'll probably use this new one that I've got for another year or two, and then upgrade to a trailabike by then. Maybe even his own bike, depending on where we are and his abilities.
I went yesterday to get the trailer off the side of the path, but it was gone. I hope whoever snagged it gets as much use as I did out of it. (and that it doesn't leave them stranded 5 miles from home)
You get what you pay for, even with Burly. The bottom of the line Burley's have bottom of the line plastic wheels... the next step up has normal bicycle wheels.
EDIT- I love my Burley, but I got the middle shelf variety.
