Any interest in a group ride this weekend? I was thinking of a ride in the Cleveland Metroparks. Riding the parkway at W 130th to the marina by Detroit. It's 44 miles round trip, mostly flat. Plenty of places for water, and a place for snacks or real food at the halfway point. Any interest?

I am interested. The weekends are usually no problem for me.

The road conditions in Rocky River Metropark from Berea north to Lake Erie have deteriorated a lot over the winter. Especially near the edge of the road, so it's hard to ride with auto traffic.

Thanks, I'll have to check it out, haven't rode it this year. If there is enough interest in a ride, I can find and alternate route, maybe from brecksville to a point.

Roads not so bad as long as you take your lane and keep it. As long as you stay a foot or two left of the white line it is fine.

+1. I'm not sure what's going on that weekend, but if there isn't anything, I'm down.
The only nasty part of Valley Parkway is between Cedar Point rd. and Bagley right after that tight curve when heading north. You MUST take the lane going around these blind curves,if not,(due to personal experience),some moron will try to pass into oncoming traffic.
My favorite place to ride in Spring,Fall,Winter is always the Parkway.I have noticed cars are more aware of bikes in the last 2 years but road maintenance seems to have fallen behind this year.People visiting from other states are always impressed with the Emerald Necklace.

That weekend is my 23rd wedding anniversary. I think I'll be hanging out with my wife.

Last time I rode in the valley on the weekend, I said I wouldn't do it again because doofus SUV driver came unneccessarily close and scared me:eek: and that seemed to be the order of the day..... The cars don't want to give you any space at all.....You do have to be very assertive, especially on the weekend when the valley fills up. During the week it's not as crowded w/cars, so it's better.
Happy 23rd Mr Danw! Good on ya!

I rode the tandem from Rocky to Berea and back this past Saturday and I even commented to Lisa how nice it was that not once did we have any a-hole drivers buzz or otherwise mess with us. Guess some weekends are good and others......not so much.

When we ride through the valley with the scooter group, we ride in staggered formation, and cars *still* try to go around us. We get single file when approaching bicyclists. :)
I used to ride from the Rocky River boat ramp to the falls many evenings after work. I loved it when the water was high and they closed the fords. Had the entire road to myself!

Woah. When did we get another rider from the Avon's?!
Would you and your scooter group mind motorpacing me?

Ok well it seems split on location. If you want to join us but not on the road, the All Purpose Trail runs right next to the road, the whole way.
So what is a good day and time?

Carrying an extra set of wheels and "Team Mitcholo" stickers all over the scooter?
Then we could have the bike shop measure your head for a much larger helmet.:D

"Rider" might be a stretch. I'm just getting back on the bike after 15 years hanging from the garage ceiling. (The bike, that is. I spent the same 15 years just sitting on my ass most of the time...) Y'all don't really have an intro section here, but I posted one in the main forum, and another in the 50+ with a bit more info. (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=543506)
I think a couple of you know my friend from work, Don H here in Avon (Titus, Merlin, and something else, usually carried on top of a black Volvo), and maybe another co-worker in Elyria, Todd W (skinny guy on a Serotta.) Leaving the lot at work one day I asked Todd how he'd like drafting behind this big windscreen (http://smorris.smugmug.com/photos/396672738_BP6rt-L-1.jpg). :)
Stop in anytime. Here's me. (http://tinyurl.com/77b4v) If the garage is open and the light is on, I'm usually out there fiddling with something.

Does Saturday at 9:00 AM work?
I am in Canton, so I have about a 1 hour drive. Pushing it to 10:00 am would help me a bit, I could make 9:00 but I don't know how I feel about waking up at 6:00 on a weekend....
Do you guys ride slow enough for a vintage MTB to keep up?

So what's up? Saturday @ 9:00 AM?, 10:00 AM?, motor pacing?, running over family pets on the trail?, breaking wheels in potholes? giving the finger to the red necks in pickups and/or soccer mom's in vans? it's all good, just a ride in the park.:D

10 am Saturday. W 130 st parking lot, where it meets Valley Parkway, near Royalton Rd (State Route 82). If the lot is full there is additional parking in lots nearby, either east or west on the parkway. Destination is the marina near Detroit Rd, at the Rocky River, Lakewood Border.

Wish I would have checked the thread before heading out. I was at the starting point at 10, waited til 10:15 and when no one else showed up I hopped on the bike and road toward Rocky River. Nice 41 miles ride --
Well maybe next time I won't be so alone.;)

Ha, did you just think you missed everyone?? I went for a ride of my own on Saturday, I started from my home in Canton then hit Alliance, Marlboro, New Baltimore, Randolph, Hartville then back home. It was supposed to be about 39 miles, but it ended up 52.4 after getting lost twice.
How about we start a new thread for a group ride. Hows the weather looking for this weekend?
