Fifty Plus (50+) - Must be the shorts

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Granted, I just got back to logging substantial miles last year; but all last year and the off and on years before were ridden in regular old cargo shorts and a polo, or T shirt. Never experienced a honk, or a hand gesture, no discouraging words thrown my way. So I go out and buy myself a pair of cycling shorts and viola! 2 idiots on the same day.
Gotta be the spandex.

Nah, probably just a couple of teen girls out razzing the over-the-hill old guy trying to recover his lost youth. But hey, what do I know, maybe you ARE too sexy for your shorts.
Are you submitting the drivers to a "plumbers crack" due to a bad fit in these new shorts?

If they were red or white cycling shorts, you should already know the reason from previous threads.

Yuqdlo(is this a brand of yogurt?),
You are living in the Nascar fan section of our Buckeye State. At this time of year they get a bit pumped and every cracker on the road with a bad muffler thinks he is Speedy Gonzalas.
Try wearing a jersey that resembles a checkered flag, and a #8 on your helmet. Those hayseeds will stay behind politely and follow you like a pace car.

Read it backwards. ;)

No; they fit quite nicely. But I do feel you have to be somewhat of an exhibitionist to where the things.

Not everyone honking at cyclists are rude or are razzing.....several years ago, a workmate and I were riding around in Anchorage, Alaska just taking in the sights before catching the train to Fairbanks and the start of our ride back home in Vancouver B.C. Canada. We were continually honked at, hollered at, and waved at, which made us very nervous, as we were in a foreign country. It was raining, so we were wearing jackets donated by the Teamsters Union. These rain jackets had a big emblem on the back. Finally, at the train station, we were greeted by about 100 fellow Teamsters attending a convention from all across America, they were just saying hi, not posing a threat at all! You never know.

Maybe not both of them; but I'm pretty sure the one displaying the one finger salute was not just saying hi.
You do realise in the old Ohio Drivers Handbook you were required to give an audible horn signal before passing a bike. The older geezers still follow this rule(or they just don,t like the shorts).

Did the handbook specify how to honk?

- Maybe "something" needs adjusting?
- Maybe wearing them makes you ride differently? More assertive?
- Could be that age discrimination is pervasive and quite annoying. As if someone our age is not allowed to do certain things.
