Built for Italy's fabled Fausto Coppi, this 56-year-old lugged steel classic merits a place of honor on the 50+ forum.

Absolutely agree, I didn't think they even had bicycles like that in the early 50's, I bet I didn't even know of ten speed road bikes until the late 50's or early 60's. BTW, I was born ing '48 so I was 4 yrs old when that bike came out.

Interesting. I wonder how the top riders of today would fare if they rode a bike like that in the TDF? Quite well, I'm guessing.

Quite poorly, unless they put on new tires. :)

I like how they have left it alone and didn't restored it to a shiny finish. They have honored its history.

So Louis, your suggesting that I return the 58 cm carbon tubular wheelset scheduled to arrive on my doorstep in mid-June? I was hoping to enter next year's tour. I've convinced my wife that the wheels are the missing piece.:D

Jet, how in the world did you convince your wife? Mine has crazy ideas about wasting my paycheck on food, car repairs, clothing, and other assorted frivolous baubles.

I caught her in a weak moment when I got paid for "unused vacation and bonus time" when I retired from working full time at the end of April. She called it a "retirement gift" that she continues to remind me about. She has 4 more days of teaching elementry school to complete her 31 years, followed by her retirement. She must have a "plan" for her retirement gift as she has hinted about a state that begins with H.;)

When are you gonna tell her about the podium girls? :D
