Okay, so I finally gave up on my 10-speed. Prior, I decided I would convert it into a fixed gear. It had horizontal drop outs, it was heavy, but I thought I would make what I could out of my frame. When I tore the bike apart to start the conversion, I noticed the threading was rusting, my frame was deteriorating. Halfway through the process, I decided to just buy a new frame and start from scratch. I've only purchased already assembled bikes in the past. Never built my own, but I did some research and the concept seems simple enough with common sense and some minor details that need attention.
I purchased an IRO Mark V HD frame. I'm a small girl approximately 5'1" and I have short legs. I was sized for track bikes recently and was told 47-49cm European and 50cm American maximum, with consideration of stand over height, etc. I decided I'd try a smaller frame, just in case. The 49cm Bianchi Pista was even a bit too large for me.
The Mark V HD is restricted to an up to 650c wheel set. I can find plenty of front wheels in this size for a fixed gear (plenty of free wheelers out there), but I still cannot find a rear wheel with a fixed/free hub. I've been told these are rare and it's looking more and more like I'm going to have to get it custom built. Anyone have any advice or suggestions? I'm having such a hard time completing my bike due to this. I can't assemble the fork, stem, and handle bars until I am able to determine where I'm at with the wheel set and seat post...gah I feel stuck.
