Mountain Biking - I want to go tubeless

Hi guys,

I am a commuter, but after searching it seems this sub forum knows most about tubeless tyres.

I have a few questions with regards to stans no tubes conversion:

1) Would it be ok to use Gatorskin ultra 28mm tyres at around 60psi?
2) Why do tubeless offer more puncture protection compared to a tube with slime in? Is it because the tyre is thicker and therefore seals better?
3) If I were to get a flat on my commute, is it possible to plug the hole with a tubeless plug, and then just pump it back up?
4) What kind of ride will I get with 28mm tyres at 60psi? Would it be possible to go fast?

dunno bout a 28mm, i know u can tubless a skinny tire in theory cause hutchinson/shimano make a road racing 23mm tubless system, but the rim is a little diff i think, but idk how well it would work or w/e

tubless has better flat protection b/c you can't get pinch flats, no way slime is gonna heal pinch flats, also stans no-tubes tire sealant is a much better sealant than slime, ie it actually works

if you get a flat, hopefully the sealant will plug it and u can just add air, otherwise it would be too difficult to patch on the road especially cause its hard to patch a tire untill the sealant has dried, so you have to pull the tire off dump the sealant and wait, then patch it (at least if you wanna do a good job.) Carry an xtra tube, get a flat, pop in the tube and run it tubed

you can always go fast

you can save yourself some work and stick stans in the tubes. i have been having really good luck with this method on road and off road. i ride in the desert.
