...but he's alive and expected to recover.

Our local news sources are inundated with this story as this man is CEO of our areas largest employer. They are taking several different tacts, one station has turned this into a soapbox for helmet requirement (EDIT: which he was wearing). This report tends to be more biased to the road engineering aspect.

My purpose for posting this is as a reminder to ride within our skill limits and to be careful on roads we're unfamiliar with. Accidents happen, unfortunately, so a bit of caution is always wise. IMHO

Yeah, helmets sure prevent neck injuries. But you don't want to mess with the Department of Highways.

Ride safe on roads that you are familiar with.

+1!

I'm sure we all have tales of close calls, self-inflicted or otherwise. Be safe.

I guess I don't have to apologize for being kinda slow on descents and turns. On group rides I strive to be the first up a hill and the last down.

Odd coincidence, my brother lives on that very same road. There's a very steep hill that ends at a T intersection at the bottom. If you approach the other way, there's a very steep S curve down to the bottom that I had a close one on when I hit some sand. I made it thru, but it was a wakeup call!
