well, in that case, when you hear "bang, bang, bang!" get as low as possible, and if possible, hide behind solid concrete. :p

I'm looking at that, but rental prices are so prohibitive.

There is some public transportation, but this place was designed for cars, just not as many as there are now. It's so spread out here, it would be hard to have enough public trans to cover everything.

I don't have a car and it's doable, but it takes a lot of time. Definitely plan for transit times when going anywhere. If you go to www.metro.net (http://www.metro.net) and enter your start and end addresses it'll tell you how to get almost anywhere by public transportation, and how long it'll take.
Soooo, we HAVE to eat at Roscoe's when you get here. It is a MUST. Just send me a PM when you're in town and we shall head to the nearest branch for some chicken and waffles. Mmmmm...
There are two train systems, the Metro (http://www.metro.net/index.asp) and the Metrolink (http://www.metrolinktrains.com/). The Metro trains are pretty good and will get you places in LA County (Pasadena, Long Beach, Hollywood, downtown) fairly quick and cheap. I think a day pass is $3. Metrolink trains connect the surrounding counties such as Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and tend to be more expensive ($10-15 round trip) and less frequent.
The Metro bus system is cheap and goes just about everywhere, but it's slow slow slow.
Can you just borrow your grandma's car?

Day pass is $5 now and you need a tap card (reusable plastic card) to use it. SS, I have an extra one, so if you wanna have it that's ok.

Well, here's the itinerary:
Leave Tucson tonight (Amtrak) at 11:35
Arrive LA at Union Station at 9:40 AM
Take Metro to grandma's (in Artesia)
I'll use her car part of the time, public transit the rest (Jolleen, if that justifies the use of your spare card, cool. If not, no sweat!).
I'll have my camera and lighting, so if anyone in LA wants to shoot, let me know (Jolleen -- I could use a couples session under my belt if you and teh bf want!).
Armed with google maps (with GPS!) and internet (metro.net) on my phone, I think I'm set!

Sounds like you got it all planned out. FYI, CHP doesn't like it when you drive 100mph on the 405 at 2am.

*writes that down*
Thanks!
Honestly, I tend to be a lazy, slow driver. It's kind of embarassing, but my blood pressure always seems to be in a great range, so I'm not complaining. :D

They find it especially offensive when you ask them to hold your joint and beer while you look for your license.
