Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I know Alex and Deya will the at RATB, anyone else up for one of the best centuries on the schedule? I will be there with a new stoker. I will be happy to turn a sub 6.5 hour time. Last year Alex and Deya had the fastest time of the event, single or tandem. I think it was around 5.30... they totally shredded.

That one is waaaay out of our league....back in the day we use to do biathalons (not the tri's)around the Lake..they were big fun but we got to start and finish at the waters edge NOT 7000 feet below in Redlands. 5.30 to 6.30!!!!! You guys are monsters.. we 'll be in Patterson (in central Ca ) at the Canyon Classic that weekend ...we'll be thinking of you. Have fun.

Yes we’re in :) John I see you are a pulling your secret weapon ;) it is great that you are doing it on your tandem. The Ride Around the Bear century rates in the top of our list and is by far the best one we’ve ever done. The views are great; once you get to Bear Lake they are just breath taking. Bill we think this is a must do, and is one of those things you should do at least once in your life.
I just looked at the elevation profile. I would worry about having the braking power in my arms and in the calipers to get down. The up would be pretty daunting on the tandem.

The decents on the Bear are easy. Most of the twisty curves are on the climbs and the decents are straight. The last decent off Onyx Summit is 30 miles. Braking is not a problem. There is usually a headwind. The tandems dominate at this point. We get lots of singles trying to grab our wheel on the way back
John who's the new Stoker. You and Sherrie would of done well on this ride .I know she couldn't ride it with going to Nationals if a few weeks. I'll be watching for the results from the recliner tring to recoperate from our accident. Maybe Sue and I will get to ride the Bear again next year. Good luck and have fun.
