Advocacy & Safety - Kneepads

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My wife fell of her bicycle and fractured her knee. She has to wear a soft cast for the next six weeks.
Anyone knows good kneepads that she could ride with when she recovers? Something light and comfortable, yet offering some kind of protection if she falls again.
Thanks.

661 do some good knee pads I think - they are often recommended around here
If you aren't riding technical off-road trails, you don't need kneepads. Contain your inner safety nanny; just because she happened to fall on that particular area once doesn't mean it's likely to happen again.

I think it is just to prevent further damage to the knee while it recovers.

Evidently not.

oh well I stand corrected! As Exit. said, don't bother with kneepads afterwards, they will just make her feel uncomfortable and not want to ride.

Yeah, I tend to agree, but she fell twice in two years, always hurting her knees...

Why is she falling?

well then my advice stands as 661 pads - they usually get good reviews :) my mate was using some and he liked them.

Maybe she should learn how to fall "properly?" In other words, try to roll onto one's side rather than just... flop onto the ground.
Also, not to be harsh, but maybe your wife should practice better bike control as to not fall so much? Wearing kneepads when not on tech off-road stuff makes one look silly and self-conscious

When I wrecked as a kid and needed stiches on my knee, my parents made me wear kneepads afterward. I hated it.
+1 on the trike idea. Or maby training wheels.

For use during the knee rehab use the skater style kneepads. The ones with the plastic shell on the front. They will stay in place if she wipes out rather than slip around her knee.
