Great Lakes - Is it Winter yet?

Finally, at last my cyclecross and bad weather frame came in from the bulk buy which ended in December and was delayed by over one month. I had all the other parts sitting in my basement and the anticipation was absolutely killing me. Can't wait for Winter to try this baby out in a cyclecross race. But enough babble, onto the pics.

Everything minus the wheels. The wheels are Dura Ace hubs with Mavic Open Pro 32 spoke rims and Ritchey Cyclecross Tires.

Also there is partially to be seen a Easton EC90 carbon fiber handlebar, Fizik bartape, Dura Ace chain, Cane Creek headset and other odds and ends.

Can't wait to built that baby.

Oh, and the yellow frame in the background is a 1973 Schwinn Continental frame which I'm waiting for parts to turn it into a fixed gear.

If not, you will have to try this year. And, that will be, without question, one of the nicest rides in the 4's races.

Although, if you're going to do cross, ditch the carbon post. You won't like it so much when it's splintered, jagged, and sticking out of the inside of your thigh.

I beat the **** out of all my bikes, no matter what material it's made of. A bike is a tool, not a fashion show :)

And yes, this coming year will be my first cyclecross adventure. I hate the rollers and need some races over the winter to keep me fit.

Yes. Not because it's a bad post. Because on a remount at speed you put a lot of force on that thing in a way it's not designed to handle. When you remount you'll be basically pushing all of the weight of your body across the top with a peppy little jump.

That's come lovely looking stuff you got there. But, If you can't afford to replace it, then don't race it. If you can, then go ahead.

Anything dura ace or carbon is asking to be beaten up. My cross bike is worth about $200 and it's still faster than me - and I ain't slow (not terribly fast either).

The first thing I noticed when racing in Chicago is the amount of bling that cross racers have - they spend some serious moolah. Dugast tubulars on deep carbon rims in the 4Bs springs to mind.

Which Ritchey tires do you have? If they're the speedmax, I would recommend changing out the front for a Michelin Mud for racing. If they're excavadars I would change out the back to a semi slick or file tread except for muddy or very rough races.

I got the Ritchey Speedmax. I'm gonna do some test rides on the levee in front of the house once the cold sets in again.

I've even cheapened my rig up more this year. Gone to a 9 speed cassette with a bar-end shifter mounted to a Kelly's take off. I'm guessing that getting rid of the STI's will cost me exactly 0 spots this year. And, I'm guessing that I'll also have to replace 0 STI's mid-season.

I agree the last of the snow just melted off our local ski hill last week and I am not ready for it agian. Well at least not yet.

Which rims are you importing? I'll definitely be ordering some kinlin rims and maybe a few more hubs (Road and MTB). I might be able to afford a carbon rim for my TT rig.

What a smooth ride. Much different to ride than my race bike. More comfortable geometry and the turn-in much less aggressive than my Madone. I was kinda shocked in the beginning when I turned the handlebar and the bike wouldn't follow as fast as my Madone does.

So far I've put about 60 miles on this horsee. I just need to change the tires to more appropriate summer tires.
